From The Principal
Collins Cobras are getting excited about the 2020-2021 school year!
Collins teachers start back on Wednesday, August 5th. We have lots of planning and preparing to do to make the school year start off GREAT!
There are many questions about the virtual start of school and the upcoming "In Person" start for about 60% of our students on September 8, 2020.
We are still placing the finishing touches on what day-to-day "In Person" school will look and feel like - so when we have it all shined up and ready we will be sharing the details in an upcoming Collins Cadence parent newsletter.
Virtual Learning... what does that look like?
The teachers will be working and communicating with families regarding the delivery of instruction to students. Most instruction will be asynchronous... meaning recorded lessons for children to watch on a schedule that works for the family. Students will check-in and engage in learning activities in all classes daily but there will be flexibility as to when that occurs during the day.
Teachers will also provide time for live learning - but if a student isn't able to attend they can watch the recording later in the day.
The teachers will also share a "Week At A Glance" document that will be sent the Friday before and it will outline the learning for the coming week.
Placement of students
- Each teacher will have a class of students that will include both "In Person" and "Remote" learners.
- Based on parent selection we anticipate each homeroom class to have between 15 - 18 "In Person" students and the remaining students will be "Remote" learners.
- The Learning Community and homeroom teacher that your child is initially placed will be the same throughout the school year regardless of remote or in person learning.

I cannot tell you how much I miss our students and how ready and excited for the new school year. We will be online until September 8th so anyone who needs assistance with technology we want to help in whatever way we can. For those of you that have signed up to receive a Chromebook, we will hold our Chromebook distribution on August 10th from 1:00-4:00 PM. If you have not had a chance to fill out our survey, please let me know if you need a Chromebook and I will make sure we have one ready for you by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org . I have included directions for our Chromebook distribution below.

Welcome back Collins’s students! We are excited to be ramping up for school to begin on August 12. We have great news! We now have two counselors on the campus. Ariel Aymond is the 5th grade counselor, and Krystal McCure is the 6th grade
We are excited about the upcoming school year and meeting you virtually until September 8. We have lots of exciting things planned for all of you. We can’t wait to hear how your summer has been, what great movies you watched, and what things you accomplished - big or small.
Nurse Kendall Update

The State of Texas has not waived immunization requirements, therefore, if your child is needing any immunizations, please get in touch with your health provider to get caught up as soon as possible. This is valid for both in-person and remote learning. If you have a conscientious objection affidavit, you may contact me to make an appointment to drop it off beginning August 5.
If your child is going to require prescription medication at school, please email or call me to make arrangements to drop it off and fill out the required paperwork. This will be by appointment only.
Over the counter medication, such as ibuprofen and Tylenol, and other medications that treat Covid-19 symptoms, such as cold and cough medications, will require a physician note to administer at school.
