Collins Cobras are getting excited about the 2020-2021 school year!

Collins teachers start back on Wednesday, August 5th. We have lots of planning and preparing to do to make the school year start off GREAT!

There are many questions about the virtual start of school and the upcoming "In Person" start for about 60% of our students on September 8, 2020.

We are still placing the finishing touches on what day-to-day "In Person" school will look and feel like - so when we have it all shined up and ready we will be sharing the details in an upcoming Collins Cadence parent newsletter.

Virtual Learning... what does that look like?

The teachers will be working and communicating with families regarding the delivery of instruction to students. Most instruction will be asynchronous... meaning recorded lessons for children to watch on a schedule that works for the family. Students will check-in and engage in learning activities in all classes daily but there will be flexibility as to when that occurs during the day.

Teachers will also provide time for live learning - but if a student isn't able to attend they can watch the recording later in the day.

The teachers will also share a "Week At A Glance" document that will be sent the Friday before and it will outline the learning for the coming week.

Placement of students

  • Each teacher will have a class of students that will include both "In Person" and "Remote" learners.
  • Based on parent selection we anticipate each homeroom class to have between 15 - 18 "In Person" students and the remaining students will be "Remote" learners.
  • The Learning Community and homeroom teacher that your child is initially placed will be the same throughout the school year regardless of remote or in person learning.

Welcome Call

On Friday, August 7th your child's homeroom teacher will be calling home to introduce themselves and welcome you to their homeroom. During this call teachers will check to make sure you have all that you will need to make the start of "Remote" learning successful. This would include making sure you have the computer you need to "Log On" on Wednesday, August 12th. This is just an introductory call - the Learning Communities will share videos from all teacher to share a warm welcome to Collins on the following Monday.

We will be virtual this year!

Our teachers are excited to reach out to all Collins families via videos to welcome your child to their learning community. You may even see messages from the counselors and other surprise guests. There will be more information about how to order spirit shirts, join PTO and other important updates that will be shared by the learning community.

Homeroom teachers will call the first day of school to give a big welcome to 5th and 6th grade. We will start calling around 10:00 AM. What a great way to start a first day - a personal phone call from teacher to student (& family).

What if I want to change the instructional option for my student?

Parents declared remote or in person learning through completion of Info Snap. Changes to the selection can only be made by emailing the Collins Registrar, Mrs. Glaser, at .
