News from Ms. Hess
Two permission slips were sent home with your child today. One is for our puberty talk called Growing Up. In order for your child to participate, you will need to have it signed by April 12.
The second is for an Electronic Recording Release and Authorization from Grant Wood for the Underground Railroad Spheros Makerspace Challange in which we are participants. This allows Grant Wood Area Education Association to take video of our process to share our learning with other teachers and schools who would like to integrate technology in their classes. Please return by April 12.
In math this week we worked with adding and subtracting unlike mixed numbers using the least common denominator with regrouping. Next week, we will begin working with geometry and measurement.
This week in writing, we continued publishing our imagined narratives and began writing a compare and contrast piece about our interview with a resident of Colonial Manor.
In literacy, we practiced applying our Second Step skills to understanding how different characters experience and perceive the same events differently. We brainstormed emotion words and then added text evidence to describe four character's reactions to the same event.
In time traveling, we learned about the complex, difficult history our country has with slavery. We learned about life in the 1500s in West Africa and how slavery began in our country as well as the difficult life of a slave.
