Physical and chemical changes
by:Cody Youngblood
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Any characteristic of a material that can be observed or mesured without changing the identity of matter.
EXAMPLES:
- Color and shape
- length and mass
- Volume and density (D=M/V)
PHYSICAL CHANGES
The physical properties of a substance change but the identity of the substance dose not change.
EXAMPLES:
- Changing from one state of matter to the next
- Melting 0 degrees c,and boiling point 100 degrees c.
- Slicing bread,mowing lawn,melting ice
CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
Any charcteristics that give a subtance the abilty to under go a change that results in a new subtance.
EXAMPLES:
- Flammabilty
- Reacts with oxygen
- reacts with light
- reacts with water
before
CHEMICAL CHANGE
A change in the identy of a subtance due to the chemical properties of a subtance.
(You have a new subtance)(is it reversable)
EXAMPLES:
- Flammabilty
- Reacts with oxygen
- heat and light
- electricty
