May 25, 2016: The Last Day of School
Have a Great Summer!
Parents,
Thank you for a great and positive 2015-2016 year! You have been a wonderful group of parents who have poured into our school wonderfully. We have many successes this year and we couldn't have done it without you. Thank you for every dollar that you spent on our fundraisers throughout the year and all of the kind and positive words you have spoken about our school. It is amazing to see how we are thriving and growing.
Save the Date:
Monday, August 1st- Class lists will be posted at front of school
Thursday, August 4th- Meet the teacher day-Open House
Monday, August 8th- 1st day of school
It was a joy seeing so many of you come to the school for parties and for our 5th grade award ceremony. I bet you are proud of your children and you should be! Thank you for all you did to support their performance and progress. Also, congratulations to all of our students who had perfect attendance for the year! That is a huge accomplishment. We had several students who showed great citizenship, who excelled in their specials classes and who also won many awards. Thriving for excellence is key!
Students in grades 3-5: Georgia Milestones score reports have not all been received. The results will eventually show up in the parent portal, but until then, we will await their arrival and get them to you at the most convenient time. 5th grade students will receive their reports at the middle school. Students transferring to other schools will have their results sent to their new schools with the rest of their academic records.
Please enjoy your summer and make sure that your child is reading and practicing their math facts. We will again be ready to teach on day 1 of next year and having our kids ready will help us to get them further!
Reminders:
- Please satisfy all school financial balances- lunch, lost books, etc. We will hold report cards until these are cleared to zero balances.
- Please check our lost and found- We still acquired more items-We will box them up to send to the needy after school today.
- Our building will be open in the summer for office hours from 9-12, should you have to come to the school for any school business (withdrawals, updates to address, etc.)
- Summer school letters have been sent and calls have been made for students in grades 3-5 who had an academic average in their courses lower than a 70. We look forward to helping these students excel over the summer at Sugar Hill ES.
- Students may bring their book bags today. All students with no unsatisfied balances will take home report cards today. Celebration time!
Rising Kindergartners:
- Please help students this summer learn how to tie their shoes, hold a pencil, write their name and practice counting and colors. These basics will help them to be ready for next year.
- Please look for additional information about summer activities and opportunities for learning.
GADOE waives promotion, retention requirements for Milestones tests (Repost)
On May 5, 2016, the State Board of Education granted a waiver of promotion, placement, and retention requirements tied to the 2016 administration of the Georgia Milestones End of Grade (EOG) tests. As a result, Gwinnett County Public Schools will use grades to determine promotion and retention for students at the elementary and middle school levels. Once final grades are determined, local schools will communicate with parents of students recommended for summer school. Students who may be eligible for summer school received letters on Friday indicating their most recent status. Confirmation will be made on Friday, May 20th.

We are excited to see them grow and move forward to middle school. Remember not to be a stranger! Keep in touch and let us know about all of their new experiences at the middle school. For those who are leaving our area to move to other states or towns, we will miss you and wish you the best. Have a safe and joyous summer!
