Doe Run Parent Newsletter
September 1, 2022
Principal Message
One tradition we have always have on the first day of school in my house is to take a picture. The picture is designed to definitely captures the anticipation of the moment. As I look back at my children's first day photos, I see new back to school outfits, shiny book bags, giant smiles and of course a dog or two sneaking into the picture. As great as these pictures are to look at now, the actual moment of getting them taken was a frantic display of looking for a lost notebook, spilling a bowl of cereal all over the kitchen table and first outfit for the day, and one of those dogs stealing a sneaker and running around the house with it.
Whatever your first day traditions are in your house, I wish you all well and cannot wait to start our journey together.

Instrument Rental Night - 4th Grade Learners
If your child is interested in playing a band or orchestra instrument, you are invited to attend the Beginner Instrument Information and Rental night. It will be held on Monday, September 19 from 6:00-6:45pm in the Doe Run cafeteria (for Doe Run parents/students) and 7:30-8:15pm in the Baron Cafeteria (for Baron parents/students). Most learners chose an instrument, signed our Google form, and were screened and measured for that instrument at the end of 3rd grade, but even if you have not completed those steps, it is not too late to sign up! In order to support you and your learner as they begin their instrumental journey, we would like to help YOU by providing as much information at the outset as possible, including:
- The social, emotional, cognitive, and academic benefits of learning a musical instrument
- Where/how to find a quality beginner instrument for your student
- How the Beginner Instrumental Schedule works
- How to practice
- What playing an instrument IS and ISN’T
- We will also have parents whose students have gone through the program speak, give their honest feedback, and answer questions you may have from a parent/student perspective
… and much, much more
If you can’t make it or if you know what you need, you can check out our Menchey Music Landing Page here: https://www.mencheymusic.com/recruitment/manheim-central-school-district-instrumental-program/
While this is NOT a mandatory meeting for parents/students who intend to start instrumental instruction this year, attendance is highly encouraged!
We hope to see you Monday, September 19!
Mr. John Brackbill, elementary band director
Mrs. Alicia Brackbill, elementary orchestra director
