We are excited to welcome our students back from Spring Break on Tuesday!
Thank you for continuing to follow the IDPH and CDC guidelines to help in keeping our community healthy!
We will see our hybrid students back in person on April 6th and our remote students back online. Students returning in full in-person will start on April 12th. Schedules will change on April 12th for all students. Whether you have chosen to transition between learning models or remaining in your current model, we look forward to continuing to work with you and your child to finish the school year on a strong, safe, and healthy note!
We will highlight any changes to routines for students this week, in anticipation of the full in-person/ full remote models. Please read below for important information for families. Please refer to the District 45 Return to School website for FAQs and other information.

Full Remote Information for York Center Families
- Full remote learning changes will be starting on April 12th.
- ALL full remote students must log on at 8:15 am to be counted for attendance and to start their learning day.
- Students will be live streaming into their classroom teacher's room as well as Art, PE, and Music classes on their assigned days.
- Students are expected to participate in class discussions and have all materials ready for learning each day.
- All work should be turned in on time.
- Remote learners will be away from their device for lunch and breaks, along with independent work time that will be scheduled throughout the day to support core instruction. The day will end at 2:30 pm.
- Children who receive speech, reading, resource, social work, ESL, or other support services will join that teacher's Google Classroom Meet at their newly assigned time. Specialists will communicate new times.
- Book Check-out opportunities will remain the same!
Full In-person Information for York Center Families
Full-time In-person learning begins April 12th
Arrival
- Parents must do a symptom screening for each child before sending them to school. Please check for symptoms on the list in the next section. Do not send your child to school if they have any of the symptoms listed. Call our health office for further guidance.
- New bus schedules will be sent this week. Please check your e-mail.
- Children need to wear masks from the time they arrive at their bus stop.
- Car-riders should arrive at 8:00 am and be dropped off in the parking lot on the WEST side of the building. Cars need to stop when buses have their stop signs out and flashing.
- Students will line up on the playground 6 feet apart and be admitted to the building through their assigned door for temperature checks
- Children will sanitize their hands upon arrival to their classrooms.
- Student must bring their Chromebooks fully charged each morning as there will be no chargers or loaners available at this time.
Dismissal
- Students are dismissed at 2:30 pm.
- Car riders must be picked up in the parking lot to the WEST of the school building.
- Cars need to stop when buses have their stop signs out and flashing. Thank you for your patience.
Lunch
- Students will wash or sanitize their hands before going to lunch.
- A bagged school lunch will be provided free of charge for any child who chooses to take it with two options available.
- We encourage all families who bring their lunch from home to pack lunches in disposable containers.
- Students will sit at assigned seats 6 feet apart facing the same direction.
- Salad bar items will not be available due to safety guidelines.
- Students will remove their masks for eating and replace their masks when they are done eating.
- Eating areas will be disinfected between lunch periods.
Recess
- An outdoor recess period will follow lunch daily as weather permits.
- Students can engage in one of the following:
Mask Break in the mask break area only with 6 feet distance between students
Organized activity
Walk or run the perimeter of the field
Students may not play on the playground equipment
Breakfast:
- Breakfast items will be bagged and sent home with students at the end of the day to be consumed before coming to school the following school day.
Health and Safety
Students are to wear masks on buses and school property.
Students will stay in their assigned seats in the classroom.
All seats are placed as far apart as possible and must remain as such. Desks will be spaced 6’ whenever possible with no less than 3’ when necessary.
Students must have their own materials and resources daily and are not allowed to share them with others.
***Students attending in-person must attend in-person regularly and are not allowed to switch to remote instruction without prior approval by administration.
UPDATED: Daily Symptom Screening for In-person Students
Parents and Guardians should perform the following symptom screening each day with their child.
- Does your child have a temperature equal to or greater than 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit/38 degrees Celsius or any currently known symptoms of COVID-19?
Do they have fever or chills?
Do they have a cough?
Do they have shortness of breath or difficulty breathing?
Do they have fatigue?
Do they have muscle or body aches?
Do they have a headache?
Do they have new loss of taste or smell?
Do they have a sore throat?
Do they have nausea or vomiting?
Do they have diarrhea?
Have they had close contact with anyone who has COVID-19 or is suspected of having COVID-19?
If the answer to any of the above questions is YES, please keep your child home from school and call 630-516-7829.
3rd Quarter Report Cards Available NOW!
Some notes about report cards for 2020-2021
NEW: Due to the asynchronous nature of social studies and science, teachers will report out on effort in those areas.
Report cards in grades 3-5 will not have letter grades; the letter grade has been replaced by an Overall Achievement mark, intended to give parents an understanding of progress in the identified subject area.
N/A will indicate an area is not being reported due to remote learning
I/E will indicate insufficient evidence of performance by student
ACCESS TESTING
We will be testing in-person and remote students who qualify as English learners AT York Center on the following days. If you need bus transportation, and your child is not already attending in-person on these dates, please call the office. More information about the assessment is in the attachment below.
3rd Grade:
Tuesday 4/13 from 9:00 am- 11:10 am
AND
Thursday 4/15 from 9:00 am- 11:10 am
4th & 5th Grade:
Wednesday 4/14 from 8:15 am- 10:30 am
AND
Friday 4/16 from 8:15 am- 10:30 am
Confirmation of Testing for Full REMOTE families only
Families of remote students that will need to be tested have been contacted with the following information. Please respond to let us know if your child will be coming to York Center to be tested on the dates listed for their grade level.
Picture Day
An optional opportunity for school photos will be on Monday, April 12th.
In-person students will have their photos taken while at school.
Remote students that would like a photo can arrive at the building between 2:40 pm and 4:15 pm to be photographed. Enter through Door 1.
*No class composites will be provided this year and it is completely optional.
*Social distancing and other safety measures will be in place.
*There will be no re-takes.

Chromebook Support:
Drop off/pick-up hardware support is available daily at the District office between 8am and 4pm. Please utilize one of the remote support options prior to coming inPhysicals for 2021-2022 6th Graders
All incoming 6th graders must have a new physical for 6th grade entry.
Please take the physical form with you to your doctor. The form is from the State of Illinois Department of Human Services – be sure this is the one your doctor uses – old physical forms will not be accepted. Check to be sure all immunizations are completed and have your doctor sign and date before you leave the office. All students starting 6th grade must have had one Tdap, 2 Varicella, 2 MMR, one Meningococcal immunization and completed their Hepatitis B series.
As a reminder, the Health History is a part of the student physical, be sure to have this section completed and signed by a parent.
***Make your summer care-free and turn in the physical to the elementary school before the end of this school year!
