U03- Number Relationships
This unit bundles student expectations that address relationships and patterns in numbers including the sum of a multiple of 10 and a one-digit number, reciting numbers, skip counting, and numbers that are 10 more and 10 less than a given number.
Prior to this unit:
- In Kindergarten: counted/recited numbers by ones and tens to 100
- In U02: explored place value in order to understand numbers to 99, expanded form
During this unit:
- multiple representations of numbers to 99 using base ten blocks, expanded form, standard form
- determine a number that is 10 more/less
- cardinal numbers- meaning numbers that name the quantity of objects in a set
- recite numbers up to 99 forward and backward by ones and tens
- skip count by 2s, 5s, and 10s to count a quantity of objects as well as rote counting
Suggested pacing is included in the unpacking document
Here is the Unpacking Document we recommend in the math handbook. I have already started filling out a couple of things for y'all. Remember that this is just a suggestion and you need to be responsive to your students and the needs of your team.

Remember, you have to be logged in using your Wylie Google account.
To add this folder to your drive:
- Right click on the folder name
- Click on Add to my Drive
Why should you do this?
- As I update the files in the folder you will have access to them as soon as changes are made
Place Value Names
Build your name with base ten blocks then with paper. Show it in standard and expanded form.
Different count, different number?
Just remember that as you’re practicing skip-counting, it’s important that the kiddos understand what that actually means. Here’s a little activity you could use in a workstation for concrete skip-counting practice. Fills some baggies with objects–use numbers that are appropriate for your kiddos For example, if they’re working on numbers to 50, put less than 50 objects in each bag. Students take a bag of objects, count them by 1s, 2,s and 5s, and record their work on the recording sheet. (From Math Coach's Corner)

Rethinking Calendar Time
Calendar is an important life skill that our students need, however it is not a math TEK. So when should calendar be done? The skills that are related to calendar are actually covered in Social Studies. So, I would challenge you to think about using these minutes that had been done in math and do them in Social Studies which would allow you to do more problem solving, numeracy, number talks, and counting during your warm-up time.
Social Studies TEKS:
- 1.3A – Distinguish among concepts of time, including past, present, future, yesterday, today, tomorrow, etc.
- 1.3B – Describe and measure calendar time by days, weeks, months, and years.
- 1.3C – Create a calendar and simple timeline.
