Freshmen Counseling Chronicles
December 2018
ACP Update - Health Science Night
In November, over 50 PWHS students and their parents attended the county-wide Health Science Night at Concordia University. Students explored careers in the health sciences through hands-on activities and interactive labs. In the Spring, we will be offering a similar opportunity at MATC for students interested in IT careers. Stay tuned for additional information.
Aspire Interim 2
Students will be completing the final round of Aspire Interim testing this month. These are short-duration assessments designed to produce snapshots of each student's achievement at intervals throughout the academic year.
Freshman PEP Conferences
We are in the final weeks of our Freshman Positive Educational Planning (PEP) conferences. It has been a pleasure getting to know all of our new students. This is a fantastic group of kids and we are excited to work with them over the course of the next four years! Ask your child to show you his/her four-year-academic plan.
Counseling Office - New Location
The construction of the main entrance and offices is nearly complete. Our Counseling offices will be relocated from the temporary location on the 2nd floor of 3rd building to the NEW main entrance area. The move is slated to take place by mid-December. We look forward to meeting you in our beautiful new space!

Mental Health Minute - Vaping and E-Cigarettes
Vaping is a hot topic among parents of adolescents and teenagers. The 2018 National Youth Tobacco Survey, by the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, found that vaping had increased 78% among high school students since last year and almost 48% among middle schoolers. Additionally, 3.6 million youngsters reported vaping at least once in the previous 30 days.
