Pratt's Primary Corner
Weekly Update- November 15, 2019
Week at a Glance
Math- We have started unit 3 which focuses on rounding as well as multi-digit addition and subtraction.
Writing- Next week we will begin our narrative unit. I previously stated that we would begin opinion, and I was mistaken. Sorry for any confusion.
Science- Is a brick a rock? We started our rock unit with this interesting question and it was fun to hear the different opinions and conversations students had. We eventually came to the agreement that a brick is not a rock because it is man-made and not a natural resource. We will continue to investigate rocks and other natural resources in the upcoming week.
Computer Science- Students created presentations this week to showcase what they've learned about computer science. Our class has been asked to attend the Coding in the Capitol event at the state capitol building on December 10th. Based on presentations I will be choosing 5 students to attend the event. More information to come about this later.

Number Sense Video
Number sense is an important component of learning mathematics that allows students to see relationships between numbers and operations. This is crucial not only for elementary years, but as they get into more difficult mathematics as well.
I found a video that explains it very well for K-2 and 3-5 if you are interested.
