Broadband Survey
It is a goal of Asheville City Schools to serve the needs of our students and community with a consistent focus on Excellence with Equity. A community partner of Asheville City Schools, the nonprofit Land of Sky Regional Council has presented an opportunity to enhance equity in our students’ access to broadband internet outside of school, while at the same time potentially improving internet access in Western North Carolina for all.
Land of Sky is engaged in an ongoing project called West Next Generation Network, or WestNGN. The goal of the project is to develop a business case for low cost and high-speed broadband internet access. This is an economic development project at its core, with application in the Professional & Technical Services, Home-based business, Small business, Technology, HealthCare & Telehealth, Life Sciences, and Education fields.
To the students of Asheville City Schools, the success of the WestNGN initiative could lead to lower cost high-speed broadband access available at home.
To help make the case for improved broadband access, Land of Sky is requesting that households in the region complete a survey regarding internet access. Your participation in the West Next Generation Network Initiative is welcomed. The data from the survey is being collected to identify unserved, underserved, and competitive broadband environments in Western North Carolina for possible improvement.
The data could be instrumental in getting underserved areas access to broadband internet for the first time and improving existing service with higher speeds, better cost, and better service. Asheville City Schools supports the Land of Sky Regional Council’s efforts to ensure our students have the connectivity they need to succeed in the digital workplace. The survey may take 10 to 12 minutes. Buncombe, Madison, Henderson, and Transylvania Counties are all participating. The survey is anonymous and questions include home internet connection speeds and internet service costs.

If you would prefer to take a survey on paper, copies will be available at your child’s school.
