Holland Elementary School Message
June 14, 2019
Hello HES Families,
One of my favorite quotes about parenting is from comedian, Jim Gaffigan - “I don’t know what’s more exhausting about parenting: the getting up early or the acting like you know what you’re doing.”
Being a parent is so hard. It requires all of the time, patience, energy, and love that you have. There is such evidence of great parenting at HES, as the staff and I witness the kindness and character the children display each day. And your support of our activities is always impressive, as the families attending our recent events was so significant and appreciated. HES families do an amazing job!
It’s been such a fantastic year for the children. They’ve worked so hard and shown both growth and achievement in countless areas. Working with your children has been so rewarding and so enjoyable, and the staff and I know that the success in our school was in large part due to the support from families. We’re all grateful for the trust and support that you’ve provided us, and we thank you for being partners in creating such a positive school community where children can safely learn, play, and grow. Thank you so much for an amazing school year!

Summer Resources for Children
Children need a break in the summer, but it's a great idea to provide opportunities for them to maintain their skills during these months. Below you'll find a list of resources available to students to help them stay sharp in Reading and Math. These are activities that the children may find to be very entertaining. I highly suggest that parents take time to view these and share them with their children.
In addition, you'll also find summer reading lists at the following links:
Reading Rocks! Summer Reading Challenge!
All students entering grades K – 6 are invited to participate in our Reading Rocks! Summer Reading Challenge! Get ready for a summer filled with adventure, mystery, humor, science, history, fiction…the options are endless.
Students who complete this challenge must return their completed and signed reading logs no later than September 5, 2019.
The class with the most signed and completed forms will be entered to win new books for its classroom library.
Also, all completed logs will be entered into a drawing to earn gift cards to the Newtown Bookshop and Friends Grille in Newtown. Only one student in grades K-3, and one student in grades 4-6 will earn these exciting rewards.
More details and reading logs can be found at the following link:

End-of-the-Year Parties
End-of-the-year parties will be held in the classrooms on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 19th, unless otherwise indicated by your child's classroom teacher. Homeroom Parents will be in contact with classroom families for food and other party donations. If food is to be brought to school, it is important that it arrive pre-packaged with the food’s ingredients clearly labeled (per district pupil services department). Please contact your Homeroom Parents directly with questions. The office staff would not be able to answer specific questions that you may have regarding your child’s party.
Lost and Found Items
The lost and found bin is overflowing! Please be sure to encourage your child to visit the Lost and Found for missing articles of clothing before the end of the year. Additionally, parents may visit our Lost and Found over the next few weeks from 8:00 AM-4:00 PM. For your convenience, we will re-locate the Lost and Found bin to the vestibule at the main entrance of the school. You will not need to SIGN-IN for this process, unless you need to enter the main building.
Items in the Lost and Found will be held until June 30th. Effective July 1, 2019, all items still in the Lost and Found will be donated to charity.

Please join us at the final session to learn more on Friday, June 14th 9:30-10:30am at Churchville Elementary School.
From the School Nurse
Please pick up your child’s medication by the last day of school. CRSD does not allow children to carry medications, so they must be picked up by an adult. Medications not picked up will have to be disposed of. If your child needs medication next year, please bring in the forms and medications by the first day of school. If your child borrowed any clothing during the school year, please return the clothing so other children will have it when needed.
Thank you. We wish you all a wonderful summer.
