New Year's Resolutions

Are you a person that sets New Year's resolutions? Do you have your children set New Year's resolutions? I go either way with this concept. Sometimes I think it's a great idea to begin the year with a clean slate and set goals that can possibly change things for the better. Other times I think any part of the year is a good time for new beginnings and new opportunities. Either way, the importance of a resolution is not about when you set a goal; it's about how you reflect in order to discover what you need in your life to feel happier and healthier. If you're looking to kick-start the year with a New Year's resolution, check out this helpful article on how to get your preschooler interested in setting goals: New Year's Resolutions for Preschoolers.

On that note, I would like to wish you and your family a very happy holiday. May all your days be filled with joy and good health. We at LLC look forward to seeing you after the break on January 3, 2022.

Big picture

Flu Shot Is Due

All preschool students under the age of 5 must receive an influenza vaccination before they return on January 3, 2022. Please ask your child's pediatrician to provide written proof that your child has had their flu shot. If you have any questions, please contact Nurse Deb Korczukowski: 973-292-2222 ext.1111 or via email at

From the Health Office:

Good nutrition, regular physical activity, and healthy body weight are essential to overall health and well-being. Studies show that dietary habits are shaped at a young age when supported by adults. Healthy eating starts with healthy food choices, but you don't have to be a chef to create nutritious meals and snacks for your family. Ask Penny in 103 who's enjoying her healthy sandwich!

Below you will find information that may be helpful with meal planning.

*Please remember foods like hot dogs, grapes, and raw carrots need to be cut into small pieces, approximately the size of a nickel, to avoid the risk of choking.

LLC Friendly Reminders

As noted in previous newsletters, it is important to bring your child to school on time. The school day begins at 8:00 am and your child is busy from the moment they arrive. Please make it a goal to bring them to school by 8:00 am.

Dismissal procedures are safest when they are consistent. Therefore, if you requested a bus for your child, they should be using this service daily. If you need to make a change to your child's dismissal, the office must be notified no later than 12:00 pm via email at or by phone at 973-292-2222 ext. 1100. Please also email your child's teacher.

Keeping Kids Engaged Over the Winter Break

Below are some ways to keep children’s minds and bodies engaged in learning while having fun and bonding as a family this winter break.

Kids in the Kitchen: Let your child(ren) help plan and cook meals. Pick a recipe together and talk about the food groups and why making healthy choices matters. Tap into their math skills with measuring, strengthen fine motor muscles with mixing, and expand their vocabulary with all the cool kitchen gadgets.

Family Game Night: Enjoy the time spent with your family and engage in an age-appropriate game. Try Candyland, Connect Four, or Go Fish. Playing games encourages a variety of social and cognitive skills.

Read Together: There is no single activity that promotes more joy, bonding, and conversation than reading together. After the story, encourage children to retell it or express their creativity by drawing a picture about a favorite character.

Get Outside: Explore a new park, visit a hiking trail, or just stroll the neighborhood. Wherever you go, explore and discover the great outdoors!

Gingerbread Houses

Thanks to our families and to the Home School Connection (HSA). Each classroom received a homemade, lifesize gingerbread house to decorate and add to their learning centers! Here is Audrey and Kristel decorating the house in room 109.

Thank you!

Thanks to our families and to our HSA for putting together these beautiful gifts for all of our teaching, operation, and bus staff. Ms. Nicole and Ms. Cory are posing for a picture with their new cups that were filled with great treats! We all can't wait to use them. Thank you!

Culminating Tree Study Event

The preschool classrooms planted two Evergreen trees in the LLC field as their WOW experience of the Tree Study. The students were so excited to be a part of this celebration and be able to come and visit the tree they planted for years to come. Thanks to the classroom teachers and Farmer Shaun and his team for making this possible.

Fatherhood Program

The Fatherhood Program provides a supportive environment where fathers can feel safe to share their concerns and learn from each other. We want to continue to keep this event going with all of our parents’ efforts. We are proud to announce that we had such a great turnout with so many fathers attending our past two meetings. Your participation ensures the success of our event and we hope to recruit more members. Please join us on February 17, 2022, from 5:30-6:30 pm at LLC for our next meeting: Click here for the flyer.

From the Office of the Superintendent:

The Morris School District greatly appreciates the generosity and enthusiasm of our parent volunteers for sharing their time and talents with our students in school. However, due to the escalation of our region and all of NJ to the "orange" (high risk) category for COVID transmission, and the increase in positive cases (56 as of 12/15) and quarantines (110) districtwide, we have made the decision to temporarily suspend the admission of parent volunteers in the schools. This decision is part of our strategy to keep schools open and limit student quarantining as much as possible. As you may know, we have experienced breakthrough cases in which vaccinated individuals have tested positive, resulting in the quarantining of students. Thank you for your understanding. We look forward to welcoming volunteers into our schools when it is safe to do so.
