ARSA Way: No Hoodies & No Gum
Staff we must be very diligent in our norm of NO GUM CHEWING at ARSA. Since this norm has been established: the amount of gum on furniture and on the floor has drastically decreased.
No Gum (keep reading)
I am noticing a very high uptick in scholars chewing gum. This may seem like a minor point, but it is not. Aside from supporting a cleaner campus, what appears to be gum in this day and age, it may not be gum. Drugs can be in the form of what is called edibles and it could be disguised as candy. Let's be on the side of being cautious and safe.
Be mindful of scholars chewing gum, gummy bear type candy, or any candy. None of it is allowed and if you see a student chewing gum, address it and have them discard of it in your view. If you give a student a piece of candy in class, it is to be eaten in class.
No Hoodies:
Weather is changing and it cooler. To our diligent arrival teams, make sure that we check that the jacket has a zipper or buttons down the entire front. If not you put it in the basket that is located by every entrance. The jackets are taken to Mrs. Cardenas (or the adm. may keep the collected jackets).
Badges are to always be on the outside of the jackets and uniform shirts are always to be visible.
We are always patting down the jacket and checking pockets.

ARSA Calendar for Upcoming Events!
Please remember to check the ARSA Calendar - Common Assessments Week of 10/29 (Monday - Friday)
Each week administrators and instructional coaches will highlight the growth in the instructional practices, creativity, purposeful and meaningful practices that promote student success. It is important that we recognize ALL the Excellence in Teaching we have in all of areas of our academic programs. The highlights are on a rotation throughout the year and each content/department will be the focus for the week.
Instructional Highlight- Mr. Stewart
This week’s Instructional Highlight is on Mr. Stewart. Mr. Stewart is in his second year of teaching our ESL students here at ARSA. This year we are proud to say that he is not only teaching our ESL students, but also our ESL parents. Recently, Mr. Stewart held his first ESL Parent Class afterschool. This small group of parents received the same quality ESL instruction that Mr. Stewart provides our Rangers every day. Some parents were so impressed they said they would be returning with more participants for the next session!
On a day to day basis, Mr. Stewart juggles teaching three grade levels of R/LA content with the high demands of teaching English language development. Nevertheless, he still has the same high expectations in his classroom as are seen in most ARSA classes. His students are still expected to annotate their texts and provide textual support for their answers. His students benefit from his instruction in both their language and literacy development.
When we think of ARSA as being a “hub of the community”, it is teachers like Mr. Stewart who will make that vision possible.
- Send text and picture to Ms. Taylor via email. (pictures that are texted will not be included, only emailed pictures)

- Due by every Friday, 5pm.
Spotlight on Mrs. De la Rosa, Ms. Pledger, Mrs. Gill, and Ms. C. Lewis
I would like to spotlight Ms. De La Rosa, Ms. Pledger, Ms. Gill, and Ms. Lewis. They brought their 6th-grade reading classes to the library for book tasting. The students had a great time learning about different kind of fiction genres of books available to check out and checked some out!
Spotlight on ARSA Custodial Team
Major kudos to the ARSA Custodial Staff. In October we celebrate National Custodial Employee Recognition Day. We are happy to display honor, support, and appreciation to our cohorts. Each day ARSA’s Custodial Staff warrants a clean, and safe learning environment. A clean instructional setting is healthy, and essential to educational success. To our fellow ARSA custodial constituents we send lots of love, and thanks for all of your hard work.
Spotlight on Mrs. Tovar and Ms.Garcia
Thank you so much to Ms. Tovar & Ms. Garcia for helping me with some small side projects earlier this week. They are team players who are ready and willing to help at a moment's notice. I really appreciate their support!
Spotlight on Ms. Garcia and Mrs. Ortega
I would like to shine the spotlight on Lourdes Garcia in the front office and Sandy Ortega in the copy center.
Ms. Garcia,
Has an awesome spirit! She helps me whenever I need help with something, and she does it with a smile. Mrs. Garcia never gets an attitude with me, or even gives the appearance that she is annoyed by anything I ask her. Mrs. Garcia, you are the best, and you are one of the staff members who have made my experience here at ARSA, pleasurable and memorable so far!
Mrs. Ortega,
Has an awesome spirit and disposition. She is always more than happy to help me with making copies. I have never seen her in a bad mood or annoyed. In my opinion, she is one of the reasons why ARSA is one of the best schools I have ever taught at. To know that there is a person at ARSA who is always smiling and never shows that she is having a bad day, always makes my day better and a little brighter!
Spotlight on Mr. Jenkins
I'd like to highlight Mr. Jenkins. He always makes his morning rounds to greet every teacher and see how their morning is going. It really sets a positive tone for the day. Thanks for spreading cheer in the penthouse!
Spotlight on Mrs. Hasty, Mrs. Zapata, Mrs. Tovar, Mrs. Parada, Ms. Garcia, Mrs. Ortega, and Ms. Esteban
Today the entire team moved with focus, urgency, and excellent customer service to ensure that we have all of our students Socioeconomic forms. This data is crucial to the funding of our campus through our Title 1. Inaccurate data prompt critical resource losses.
It was not planned and the team was fantastic when given the task today (Thursday). No one missed a beat! Truly was all hands on deck and I appreciated everyone's attitude and willingness to help!
Spotlight on Ms. K. Jones
Ms. Jones teaches our students when actions and decisions lead to an ISS assignment to ISS. She ensures that they are working on their classwork and remaining focused on learning while in ISS. Her classroom communicates a focus on academics and social emotional health.
Ms. Jones considers what incident that has the student with her and tailors character lessons that allow students to reflect on their thoughts and behaviors and how to improve moving forward. She frames their time in ISS to be meaningful and where they take personal responsibility for their actions.
