Hawk Happenings: Feb. 28th

Holy Rosary Regional School/Juan Diego Academy Community

Message from the Principal

Happy Wednesday!

We have had a lot of our families re-enroll for next year and the classes are filling up nicely for the 2018-19 school year! Thank you for taking the time to complete your paperwork (or the online registration). I really enjoyed having the opportunity to sit down with families to go over financial aid for the 2018-19 school year. It is always a humbling experience hearing the stories of what people go through to send their children to our school. I know that this is a commitment that each and every parent makes, regardless of financial circumstances. I assure you that it is worth the struggle because education is the greatest gift that you can give your child (and the greatest indicator of their future success). And, a faith-based, bilingual education is an even better gift! :) So, thank you for choosing this gift for your children.

Have a great week!

Blessings,

Katie Dempsey

Principal

Dress Code for 2017-18 (Current)

We are noticing several issues with the dress code and want to remind everyone of what is in the uniform policy. Please review this carefully and ask us if you have any questions. Please note that leggings are not allowed, but tights (footed or footless) are allowed. Also, socks can only be navy or white.

Below, you will find a copy of the current dress code. If you have questions, please feel free to ask and we are happy to clarify. The only change that has been made is that students have been allowed to wear boots during the winter weather. This will be continued through March. Beginning in April, when shorts come back for the rest of the year, we will discontinue boots. Thank you for your efforts with following the uniform code. We appreciate it!!

Dress Code for Girls:

Girls: Girls from Pre-K to 8th grade will be required to wear the following uniform:

Plaid jumpers, plaid skirts, plaid skorts, navy blue pants, or navy shorts (September – October and April – June). Short sleeve white/navy polos or white button down shirts. Navy blue tights or navy knee high socks. Plain white short socks will be permitted. Girls will also be required to purchase a Holy Rosary sweater (button down or v-neck) or a Holy Rosary vest for mass days. Spirit sweatshirts will also be allowed as part of the uniform dress. (These are supplied through Ink. Inc. and can be ordered through the school). Athletic shorts are to be worn under girls’ jumpers or skirts at all times. Shorts need to be shorter than the jumper or skirt and shouldn’t show.

Dress Code for Boys:

Boys: Boys from Pre-K to 8th grade will be required to wear the following uniform:

Navy blue pants, white/navy short-sleeve polo or white button down shirt, and black belt or navy shorts (September – October and April – June). The belt will be required for students third grade and up. Students will be required to purchase a Holy Rosary sweater (button down or v-neck) or a Holy Rosary vest for mass days. Spirit sweatshirts will also be allowed as part of the uniform dress. (These are supplied through Ink. Inc. and can be ordered through the school).

Dress Code for Mass:

For girls, this will be a full uniform to include plaid jumper, plaid skort, or skirt, white/navy polo shirt or white button down, and Holy Rosary sweater or vest. For boys, this will be navy blue pants, white/navy polo or white button down shirt, black belt and Holy Rosary sweater or vest. No spirit sweatshirts or shorts will be allowed on mass days.

Dress Code for 2018-19...Feedback Requested

We are currently reviewing the dress code for the 2018-19 school year to see if any changes need to be made. We would appreciate your feedback. If you have thoughts on the uniform code, please send them to Mrs. Farias at afarias@hrrsjda.org or schedule a time to meet with her. We will solidify everything for next year, once we get a final response on our request for a name change to Holy Rosary Bilingual Academy. This issue is on the Archbishop's desk today!! Please say some prayers for it to get approved.

Reminder about Communication Protocol

In this technologically-advanced era of quick responses via tweets, emails, texts, social media posts, and much more, I think it is good to have a few reminders about proper protocol and expectations at school. Please read through these and ask Ms. Dempsey if you have any questions or concerns.

  • If you have a question for a teacher, please feel free to email them and they will return the email within 24 hrs (often sooner).
  • If you need more immediate assistance, you may try to touch base with them before drop off or after pick up.
  • Please address individual classroom issues directly with the teacher and then, if you do not feel it has been resolved, you are welcome to address the issue with Ms. Dempsey.
  • When sending an email, please be respectful. I know that issues involving our children can be emotionally-charged, but we all need to work together. All of our school staff have difficult jobs and do our very best every single day to help children grow academically, emotionally, and spiritually, as well as keep the children safe. As a staff, we try to make sure that we are "assuming positive intentions" so we ask families to do the same. Let's work as a team.
  • Please be aware of posts that are made via Social Media, which involve the school or our students. This can have significant consequences both at school and in the community.

As members of the school community, we need to work together in a positive way, to help raise these amazing children. Thank you for your partnership!
