Snack and Water Bottle Policy
Glengary Elementary School
At Glengary Elementary, we believe in promoting healthy eating habits. Research also indicates that a healthy diet will help students learn and focus. Conversely, research also indicates that unhealthy eating and “junk food” can impede learning. Fresh fruit, vegetables, and healthy portions are encouraged. Your child’s teacher will provide additional information about snacks. They will also notify you of any food allergy restrictions specific to your child’s classroom.
Water Bottles
Your child should bring a water bottle to school each day. Only water is permitted in the bottle. Juice, Gatorade, Tea, etc. are not permitted. It is important to send your child with a water bottle that has a lid and does not leak. We have found that using water bottles that have a sports lid or straw are more user friendly and help prevent spills. Some ideas are linked below.
Healthy Snack Policy
Your child will have the opportunity to have a healthy snack throughout the day. Chips, cookies, and candy are not healthy snack choices. Your child will not be able to eat those items as their healthy snack. Some easy healthy snack options are:
- fresh veggies
- fresh fruit
- cheese stick
- applesauce pouch
- yogurt pouch
- dry cereal
- crackers
Because we have a number of nut allergies throughout our school, we ask that you do not send any nut products in with your child for snack time. You can find an links below with several nut free snack ideas. The list does include some safe chip and cookie brands along with safe desserts and candy. Disregard these suggestions for the purpose of packing your child a school snack, as we again ask that you focus on packing your child a healthy snack that will help fuel their brain. Thank you!
