CJH Weekly Update
Staff - Week of Jan. 20th
Need to Know
Here we go!! It's exam week! Exam week is always busy and feels fast and long all in the same breathe. We have home activities every night this week as well, so it's a great time to stick around for some grading and then pop down to support our kids.
Jeans!!
Feel free to wear jeans on both exam days!
Feeding Kids on Thursday and Friday
On Exam Days we will be offering breakfast in the cafeteria prior to the start of school. Students should swing through the cafeteria on their way to class. Please help us remind students and we will announce this during the week as well. If a student comes to class and has not had a chance for breakfast, please allow them to run down and grab something. We all know that they will test better on a full stomach.
For Lunches on Thursday and Friday we will set totes in the hallway for students to grab a lunch. To minimize the disruption of rattling bags etc., you can wait until your classroom has completed their exam to have them grab lunches. If that means that some classes just grab on their way out, that is okay. Totes will be set out after they pass into the 3rd exam and will be picked up after school.
If students have 3rd or 6th hour that is in the HS (PE, Band, Choir). They should swing through the cafeteria on their way to the HS to pick up lunch if they would like it.
Lunch on Thursday!
Don't forget that everyone is welcome to come down to the Friendly for lunch on Thursday. We will meet there at 12:00 following dismissal and shoot to be back in the building by 1pm. We will have a sign out sheet for Thursday at 3:00pm. RSVP Here.
Friday
Reminder that on Friday, once your grades are finalized you are welcome to leave for the weekend. We will not have a sign out sheet on that day. We will be running report cards first thing on Tuesday morning. Please make sure all of your responsibilities are taken care of.
Grading Reminders
If a student passes 2 out of 3 (MP1, MP2 and Exam) you need to make sure that their final grade is passing. If it is not, please override and issue the CR. If you have students that you are in need of transfer grades please let the main office know as soon as possible so that we can dig that out for you.
Semester 1 Awards
Semester 1 awards will be held during Homeroom on the following dates. These dates were chosen because they fall after the PBIS Launch of our CARE Expectations that include Auditorium behavior.
Feb. 3 - 8th Grade
Feb. 4 - 7th Grade
Feb. 5th - 6th Grade
We will be providing Honor Roll, Principal's List, Perfect Attendance and Outstanding Attendance.
Accommodation Tracking
Tracking Sheets will be due on 1/31. You can drop them in my office when they are complete.
Mid Year Reviews
We will be scheduling Mid Year Reviews in the same way that we did last year. Please plan 30 minutes to discuss your goals and we will make any adjustments needed during that time. Please select a date/time that works best for your schedule. We are scheduling the week of Feb. 3rd and the week of Feb. 10th. This is a week earlier than last year, but I still wanted to stay clear of the first week of a new semester.

Water Bills
Just a friendly reminder that if you are using the water cooler that we need $3 per month per person in order to pay that bill. Thank you!
Restroom Checks
Please remember to continue the daily restroom checks on your plan period. This has made a huge difference in vandalism in the restrooms. We want to continue to stay on top of this as we move into Spring.
8th Grade Homerooms
On Tuesday, January 28th during Homeroom all 8th grade students will complete the My College Options Survey. This is a survey that helps students begin to think about what will come after High School. This will opt them in for some mailing lists etc. so that they begin to receive information through mail and e-mail. I would expect that it will take most students the entire homeroom to complete.
On Thursday, January 30th we are tentatively planning on taking the entire grade level to the auditorium. Ian Ishmael will present to 8th graders information and his experience in applying to the U.S. Naval Academy. Just waiting on confirmation from Ian at this point. Thank you to everyone for their input on the best way to tackle this.
Upcoming Events
- Jan 29th - PBIS launch date, details in the link.
- Please mark your calendars for the dates Feb. 12th - Feb. 19th. We will be holding a school wide event that we are calling Multiplication Wars. During these 6 days, we will take just 20 min from each period. It will rotate through each period. (Feb. 12th - 1st hour, Feb. 13th - 2nd hour, etc.) Details about what this time will look like and the final competition will be coming at our 1/27 staff meeting.
- We will also be kicking off our book study on "The Power of a Positive Team" by Jon Gordon. We will discuss the details of how this will be broken down at the January 27th Staff Meeting.
- Valentine's Dance is scheduled for February 12th from 5pm - 7pm. This will again be a reward celebration. Students that are referral free from Jan 13th until the day of the dance will be welcome to attend. Please promote with your students.
