Cori Smith with AIM News from Glasgow, Scotland
Queen Street Station, Glasgow
The busy, holiday season is upon us, and I can already feel the pace increasing around Glasgow as people cram in their Christmas shopping and plan for all the upcoming festivities. At the same time, I feel that people are longing to rest and to enjoy the company of their loved ones. Lately, God has been reminding me about His rest. Rest. What a foreign concept that word is becoming in the 21st century. Sure, we sleep, we have vacations and times of relaxation, but true rest -- that peace of mind and heart -- comes from the Lord. I happen to be one of those people who finds great joy in checking items off my "to-do" list, and this can push me to plow through my day without checking God's list for me. It isn't until I'm stressed, tired, or burnt out that God says, "Hey, don't forget me! I am the source of your peace. I am your fulfillment. I am your rest. I've got this all figured out if you will just trust in Me." I'm reminded of the hymn, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," that says Oh, what peace we often forfeit, Oh, what needless pain we bear. All because we do not carry, everything to God in prayer! God is ready and waiting for us to abide in Him, rest in Him and enjoy His presence. If you're like me, then let this be a reminder to enjoy this holiday season and to find your rest in the Lord.
