6th Grade Newsletter
Happy Weekend!
We survived the last full week of school before Winter Break! Next year is sure to be a busy one, but we'll make sure to finish out 2023 on a strong note!
Please make sure you check in with your student to see when their individual teachers' late work and reassessment deadlines are! Teachers have to submit final grades for the semester before leaving for Winter Break.
Below you'll find student pictures, important dates, upcoming events, and information on what we're currently learning in class!
Dates to Remember
- December 19: Band Concert
- December 20: End of Quarter 2/Semester 1; 1/2 Day (Winter Break begins)
- January 3: No School/Teacher In-Service
- January 4: First day of Semester 2!

Week at a Glance
Science with Mrs. Brooke and Mrs. Sheahan
In Science this week we learned about natural selection and how having a variety of traits is beneficial in nature. We had 2 labs this week, the Peppered Moth digital lab and the Battle of the Beaks Bird Beak lab. We ended the week with our unit test over Adaptations.
Math with Mrs. Taylor, Miss Christiansen, and Mrs. McLean
This week we finished Unit 5 with a test on Friday! This test grade is going into Quarter 3! Since we're so close to the end of Winter Break, moving this grade entry to Quarter 3 will allow students a chance to reassess after break.
Please check your student’s grade and have them complete any missing work. ALL work was due on Friday, December 15th!!
Replaced Math with Mrs. McLean
This week we learned how to graph points on a coordinate plane. We connected the points as we went and it created a picture of a gingerbread house!
Social Studies with Mr. Egbert and Ms. Tritico
We continued our journey through Ancient Egypt this week. Ask you child how geography affected Kush, and why was their relationship with Egypt so important.
We will be finishing up our tour next week with an end of the unit assessment on Tuesday.
ELA with Miss Hartman, Mr. Rooney, Mrs. Harder, and Mrs. Pattie
We continued our work with Theme & A Christmas Carol this week. We analyzed the character Scrooge’s growth and transformation over the course of the text and how that transformation helped to show theme.
Students completed a quiz on Theme and then also did their Unit 3 assessment this week. Any student who wanted to reassess on the Unit 3 assessment had the opportunity to get a Theme Reassessment Prep activity to work on over the weekend. Students who complete the Reassessment Prep activity will have the opportunity to reassess their Unit 3 test on Monday or Tuesday in class.
Replaced ELA with Mrs. Pattie
This week, students learned about Topic and Theme. We took notes and had discussions about example stories highlighting how to find the topic and theme of each one.
My incentive for the end of 2nd quarter is going to be a Cocoa Party on December 20th. In order to earn this incentive: students must have an A, B, or C in my class. I passed out a print out of each student's graded assignments, so far. We highlighted anything that was a D or an F, and checked to see if it was something they could redo/revise for a higher grade. Please go over this print out with your student, and help them come up with some time management strategies to get their work done in order to be able to attend the Cocoa Party. I would really love to have each student earn this incentive!
