Minding Your Health with Mrs. Cass
Welcome back! I hope winter break was good to you as we move into 2021 with new hope and new resolutions.
Speaking of resolutions, we covered goal setting in December and my plan for January is to revisit those goals to track progress and achievement. In addition, we will finish our lessons on safety and injury prevention, which will include basic first aid. For the last week of January, we will begin our lessons on the health-related components of fitness which will take us into the Heart Smart month of February. (We will have a special Heart Smart Wacky Wednesday on February 3rd from the American Heart Association. So, please plan to join us for that.)
Keep up the good, hard work! Go after those goals and stay strong and healthy! - Mrs. Cass
Playing Music with Mr. Ryan
Hi all you Odyssey Orcas! Welcome to January Music!
The specialists are excited to see students during circle time once per week starting January 4th! Check-in with your student’s teacher to see when your new specialist day and time will be.
Kindergarten will be learning about Loud and Soft, Fast and Slow, and High and Low sounds.
First Grade will be learning about Slow tempo and songs from around the world.
Second Grade will be learning quarter and eighth notes and about the composer Bach.
Third Grade will be learning about the eight, half, whole and sixteenth notes plus the song Sakura from Japan.
Fourth Grade will be learning about quarter, eighth, and sixteenth notes and the difference between staccato and legato note durations. Mr. Ryan will be asking who would like to learn the Recorder (Flute-like instrument) virtually this year.
Fifth Grade will be learning the dotted quarter note and the single eighth note along with learning the composer Rossini. – Mr. Ryan, Music Specialist
Kickin in PE with Mrs. Corsi
Happy January Odyssey Orcas!
Last month we completed a virtual Iditarod! How did your kiddo do? We will continue the Iditarod challenge through January. This month will be all about stretching and mindfulness. Be sure to check out the health and PE lessons for more info!
The specialists are overjoyed to be getting to see students during circle time once per week starting January 4th. Check-in with your students teacher to see when your new specialist day and time will be.
Have you made it to Wacky Wednesday yet? Every Wednesday Odyssey Specialists will host an all-school assembly. Join us every Wednesday at 11:30 to get up and moving, sing songs, hear a read aloud, and play some games!
I hope to see you all at Wacky Wednesday! Be sure to stay healthy, happy, and fit for life!-Mrs. Corsi
Library News
Welcome back! I hope that 2021 proves to be a great year for everyone.
Please take this time to help your child set some reading goals for the new year. Goals could include increasing daily/weekly reading time, or it may be to read a different book genre. The goals should be simple, manageable, yet challenging. It’s not a goal if it’s too easy. Example goals: I will read 1 book a week from the nonfiction book genre. I will read one picture book a week out loud to my younger sibling. I will add 10 minutes to my current weekly reading time. I will read 3 contest books.
Remind your child to watch their library lesson every Tuesday. There are some fun incentives for students who do so! If they spot Whistler (our library alpaca) in the lesson, they get a chance to win a FREE book! Lessons will be posted in your child’s classroom schoology page.
Curbside will continue in January. Students must place holds to request books. Visit the library web page for information on how to place holds, curbside FAQ’s and much more! January curbside pickup dates: 1/7, 1/14, 1/21, and 1/28 (1:00-3:00). It’s going to be cold outside, so help brighten our day by coming to curbside. We love seeing Odyssey families and getting books to kids!

Vaccinations:
Immunizations records for students will need to be in-compliance on the first day of in-person learning. If you are unsure if your student is up-to-date on their vaccinations, please reach out to the school nurse. Contact information below.
Health Information:
Please reach out to the school nurse if your student has any new diagnoses, medical information, medication, and/or health needs. Because it has been so long since we have seen our students in-person we want to ensure that when our Odyssey Orcas do return to our campus, that we have the most up-to-date health information. This important information helps keep our students safe and well. Please see the school nurse’s contact information below.
Be well and stay safe.
