Flexible Math Grouping
The fourth grade team has decided to flexibly group students for math stating this week. Flex grouping means that we asses how students learn best and group them to support their learning style as best as we possibly can. Last week students took a pre-assessment for fractions, the fourth grade team met to grade the assessments and discuss learning styles of all fourth grade students. Beginning on Monday, your student may be going to another classroom for math only. All homework will remain the same, what we are teaching will be aligned and planned as a team. As a result, your student will learn in his/her most comfortable way, hopefully leading to better understanding of math skills. We will constantly use weekly assessments or class work to regroup students. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or call me.
What Are We Learning This Week?
Math: In math this week, we will be learning about comparing fractions in our new flexible groups.
Language Arts: We will review our responsibilities in Daily Five this week, and we will working on determining the main idea of a nonfiction text.
Social Studies: We are continuing our unit on economics in North Carolina.
Classroom Needs
Thursday Folders: I am in need of a parent to volunteer time to get graded work placed into mailboxes along with Thursday folders. This should take no more than 25 minutes on a given Thursday.
Copies: I have a project I am working on for students data binders. I would love a parent volunteer to help make copies and hole punch packets for binders. This would save me so much time after/before school.
Please let Ms. Locke know if you are willing or able to help with any of the needs in our classroom. We would appreciate it all!

Communication Is The Key To Success
If you would like to change your child's transportation, please do so PRIOR to 2:00PM. Email is best as I don't always have time to check the phone.
If you would like to schedule a conference, please do so through email or phone call. I am usually busy after school with meetings, plans and just cleaning up the room. I would be happy to meet with you if you would please schedule a conference with me at least 24 hours in advance. I cannot meet in pop-in conferences in the mornings/afternoons as all teachers have a required duty during those times.
