Principal's Message - Mr. Altieri
We just wrapped up the first two days of school last week which consisted of learning school and classroom rules and how to navigate around the building. Friday ended with Mr. Altieri getting a pie to the face after losing a basketball shooting challenge during our beginning of the year school assembly.
As a reminder, we do not allow hats to be worn at school, hoodies may not be up while in school, and soda is not permitted in our cafeteria. We want to model healthy and respectful practices that students can take with them as they become young adults and beyond.
We are looking for parents to become part of our LIS Site Council team. The team meets once a quarter and we go over what is currently happening in our school and seek ways to continue improving the school experience for our students - including curriculum, facility improvements, and school events. If this interests you, please reach out to martin.altieri@usd469.net
If you are picking up your student after school, please have your sign with the student's name visible so we can move the line more quickly. Thank you!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our newsletter and being involved in the lives of our students! It is going to be a grrrrr-eat school year!
Assistant Principal's Message - Mrs. Settles
Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! This year will be my fourth year in the Lansing School District, and I want to share how excited and grateful I am to be able to serve as Assistant Principal to the students and families here at Lansing Intermediate School. At LIS, we believe relationships matter! We work hard to build positive relationships from day one with our students. We also value relationships with our parent community. As a parent myself, I believe one of the most important things you can do for your child’s education is to develop relationships with the people in your child’s academic life.
I am also proud to say our staff at LIS work very hard each year to ensure we foster a safe and engaging learning environment where students can thrive. We are dedicated to meeting the needs of all students academically, socially, and emotionally to prepare them for their futures beyond the classroom.
Thank you for being a part of our school community. I am looking forward to a fantastic year!

Counselor's Corner
Hello families!
Welcome back to our families with returning students, and a big welcome to our new students and their families! The start of the new year is so exciting, and we are here to support all our students and help them reach their fullest potential.
This year I will be supporting students through counseling lessons, small groups, and individually as needs arise. I am also the sponsor of Kindness Club, available to all 4th and 5th grade students. Kindness Club is about spreading positivity and empathy throughout or school and community. Kindness Club will meet 1-2 times a month before school starts. Please encourage your child to join us for our first meeting!

private schools. His family includes his wife, Julie, and their seven children. Mr. Brown is the son of an exceptional educator. He bring a lot of life experiences to the world of elementary education, from TV engineer to line cook at a local barbecue restaurant. He is excited to start the next chapter of his journey at Lansing Intermediate School and we are delighted to have him. Two fun facts about Mr. Brown: He loves red-eared slider turtles and used to have four of them in his classroom and he has performed on-stage with a band in front of an audience of 5,000.
