Autumn Lane Family Focus
A School Community Newsletter
A message from the principal
Autumn Lane Families,
Hello November! What a beautiful way to start the month of gratitude. We at Autumn Lane are thankful to work in a community that is grounded in trust and open communication.
As you read on, you will learn of many upcoming events and celebrations. One that I would like to highlight is our annual Veterans Day celebration, which will be held on 11/10/22. This tradition is our way of acknowledging the sacrifices of our veterans. Those sacrifices provide us a safe environment to learn and grow. On behalf of all of us, we salute you.
Thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter. I hope it provides you with everything you need to know to support your child.
With great respect,
Mr. Michael Ferris
Proud Principal of Autumn Lane

Leader in Me Update
Every month, our students learn about a specific habit. The month of October the students at Autumn Lane learned about Habit 1: Be Proactive. This habit means that you’re in charge of yourself. Throughout classroom lessons, our students learn that they have the “can do” attitude and always try their best. They follow directions and do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking. They choose their actions, attitudes, and moods and don’t blame others for their wrongdoing. Every month we have an assembly highlighting the Habit of the Month! This is where students learn about the new habit and see examples of that habit in action! Each classroom teacher chooses a Leader of the Month and that student is celebrated at our assembly. This student is chosen because they show leadership qualities in the habit of the month that is being taught.
Our school has been working hard on accomplishing our School Wide WIG (Wildly Important Goal). Our School Wide WIG was to earn 2,000 compliments by November 1st! Each classroom tried to earn 200 compliments to help contribute to the 2,000 total. Students received compliments as a class for being proactive in every school setting. Anyone could give them a complement and it was so infectious that students started to give each other compliments! Ask your student if we reached our goal!!!
Look out for the Habit of the Month for November: Begin With the End In Mind.

Early Childhood Education
Candy Sort and Graph:
Playing with colored candies is the perfect way to add words like "most," "least," and "total" to your child's vocabulary!
Grocery Sack Syllables:
As you unpack the groceries or go through a pile of treats, ask your child to help you clap and count the syllables in each item’s name. Sort the items by their number of syllables. For example: "Say and clap 'apple.' How many claps do you hear? (Two!) Say and clap 'grapes.' How many claps do you hear? (One!) Now, should we put the caramel with the grapes or with the apples? (Apples!)"
