New Albany High School
Bi-Weekly Update - August 16, 2022
Get Ready - School Starts This Week
Open House - Wednesday, August 17
Here is our Open House schedule. We ask families to utilize their student's NAPLS account when completing the schedule. We look forward to seeing you.
Student Privacy Update - Board Policy 2416
As stated in the letter to families on August 12th, in accordance with federal law and Board Policy 2416, we respect the privacy rights of parents/guardians and their children. No student shall be required, as a part of the school program or the District's curriculum, without prior written consent of the student (if 18 years of age or older) or, if a minor, his/her parent(s)/guardian(s), to submit to or participate in any survey, analysis, or evaluation, both verbally or in writing, that reveals information concerning:
political affiliations or beliefs of the student or his/her parent(s)
mental or physical problems of the student or his/her family;
sex behavior or attitudes (including gender/pronouns);
illegal, anti-social, self-incriminating or demeaning behavior;
critical appraisals of other individuals with whom respondents have close family relationships;
legally recognized privileged and analogous relationships, such as those of lawyers, physicians, and ministers;
religious practices, affiliations, or beliefs of the student or his/her parent(s)/guardian(s); or
income (other than that required by law to determine eligibility for participation in a program or for receiving financial assistance under such a program).
All NAPLS employees, including teachers, have been directed not to ask students verbally or in writing (including surveys) to share personally identifiable information outlined herein, including their preferred pronouns. Should a minor student (under 18 years of age) request a staff member to refer to him/her as a different identified gender/pronoun, our staff will work with each student to seek parent/guardian permission prior to honoring the student’s request if such permission has not already been provided by the parent/guardian.
We recognize that this change to align with federal law may be a shift in practice for students, staff and families. Please discuss this as a family and notify your child’s building principal in writing if there is preferred information about your child that will enable our school staff to best meet your child’s academic and developmental needs for the upcoming school year.
Attendance Procedures
TO PARENTS:
Early Dismissal Procedure
If a student must leave early during the school day, a request for an early dismissal should be submitted by the parent in advance to the Attendance Secretary through this electronic form: High School Early Dismissal Form. The link for the form is also available on the New Albany High School website under Early Dismissal request.
To be considered an excused absence, the reason must meet one of the criteria established by the Board of Education (Board Policy 5200).
TO STUDENTS:
Sign-In Procedure
When arriving late to school or returning from an early dismissal, students can sign into the Welcome Center or in E Office.
Opt-Out Sign in Procedure
Students who have opt-out for first period are required to sign in at the Welcome Center or E Office when you arrive on campus to be considered present for the school day.
Student Handbook and Agenda
Student ID Cards and E+R=O Lanyards
For safety purposes, staff and students are required to wear their student ID on their E+R=O lanyard on a daily basis. All freshman and new students receive new IDs when they come to the high school. All other students will wear their ID from the previous school year.
High School students that are new to the District will have a picture taken and will receive an email from Mrs. Bowman when their ID is available in the Welcome Center.
Current students in grades 10, 11, & 12 who need a new ID can scan the "Request New Student ID" QR code available in the Welcome Center and in the main HS Office.
We are Hiring Lunch Aides
Reminder - Updates to breakfast and lunch prices beginning August 2022
Beginning in August 2022, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Services Department will be transitioning to normal child nutrition operations. Outlined below is what this means for you and your family.
Breakfast and lunch will still be available to all students; however, they will not be free to all students. This means that families will need to complete the Free and Reduced-price Family Application to qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Students who do not qualify for free or reduced-price meals must pay full price for breakfast and lunch.
- Breakfast - $1.50
- Lunch - $2.75/$3.50
