6th grade Spanish - Q1 2016-2017

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español, sexto grado! We began the year discussing expectations. Students collaborated to come up with a list of expectations for themselves, their teacher, and their classmates to make sure we have a great year! We talked about why studying Spanish could help them now and in the future and what parts of the world speak Spanish. This quarter we will work on a unit called "Para Empezar" which means "In order to begin." We will be reviewing some of the elementary material as well as learning some new material. We will cover: greetings/goodbyes, introductions, how are yous, classroom commands, number spelling, time, body parts, classroom objects, calendar vocabulary including day and date, weather and seasons. Some of these concepts, like numbers, are review for the students so we work on taking them to the next level: being able to write the numbers and spell them correctly. Our goal is that the students not only be able to understand Spanish (reading/listening) but also be able to communicate back effectively (speaking/writing). Students will be utilizing a lot of online technology to practice vocabulary as the only way to learn new vocab is with lots of practice. We will be using GoVocab.com and Quizlet.com a lot to practice new vocabulary. Should your student be absent, please encourage them to check Edmodo and see their teacher before/after school for any additional support. All homework and important in class activities such as notes are posted on Edmodo. We are looking forward to a fun, productive year in Spanish! ¡Adiós!

7th grade Spanish - Q1 2016-2017

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español, séptimo grado! We began the year by establishing classroom goals, expectations, and norms. Each student came up with their own expectations and helped be in charge of what our class would look like. Each student also came up with a Spanish goal they had for this year.

The first month of the school year was spent on reviewing material from sixth grade. This helped students get back into "Spanish mode" and remember important concepts and vocabulary to help them succeed this year. The students took a review quiz on "Socrative" to self assess their knowledge of the review and did great! We did games and activities, such as "speed dating", to help students review, and had a fun time while doing so.

We will next be starting chapter 3A from the Realidades textbook and the theme of the chapter is food. This one of the favorite themes from the year since everyone can agree that they love food! :)

Our goal is that students will be able to effectively communicate in Spanish through speaking, reading, listening, and writing activities. We will be using websites like Quizlet and GoVocab to help us along the way. Please check Edmodo for homework assignments and if your child is absent. We are all looking forward to a fantastic, fun year in Spanish!

8th grade Spanish - Q1 2016-2017

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español, octavo grado! We started off the year by establishing classroom norms and expectations; with the students getting the opportunity to help come up with ways in which we can assure that the class is a positive learning experience for everybody! This first quarter of the year starts out with a comprehensive review of what the students have been studying in Spanish class over the past two years. Through various collaborative and independent activities, the students are currently reviewing various grammatical topics, such as the verbs “ser” and “estar” and how to conjugate regular AR, ER, and IR verbs. After a couple weeks of review, we will move on to Chapter 6A of the class textbook (Realidades), where the students will learn to describe the various objects and colors that make up their room at home! Our goal is that students will be able to communicate effectively in Spanish, through reading, writing, listening, and speaking. In order to help them achieve this goal, the students will be using online technological mediums such as GoVocab.com and Quizlet.com. If your child is absent, please encourage them to check Edmodo.com, as all class assignments will be posted there by the end of the school day. Looking forward to a fun, exciting year. ¡Hasta Luego!

6th grade French - Q1 2016-2017

Chers Mesdames et Messieurs,

We started the year with introductions and the alphabet. Students can say their days of the week and months of the year. Ask your Frenchie to sing the days of the week song to you! See if you can recognize where the song came from. Frenchies will be asking one another how things are going, tell how they are, invite someone, and accept or refuse an invitation-with a good excuse of course! Encourage your Frenchie to teach you what they are learning. They get to strengthen their skills while you get to learn alongside them.

7th grade French - Q1 2016-2017

Chers Mesdames et Messieurs,

Frenchies are learning about school and school life. Using expressions like avoir besoin de (to need), they will say what they and others need for class and give prices for those items. Ask your Frenchie about lunches in French school cafeterias and borrowed words from French! Students will ask questions about classes and set times and places to meet using time expressions and one of the most important verbs, aller (to go).

8th grade French - Q1 2016-2017

Chers Mesdames et Messieurs,

Frenchies are learning about how to discuss what they do during their free time. They are using the verbs faire (to do), aller (to go) and avoir (to have) to talk about what people are going to do and ask questions like why, what, when, where, how and with whom. Our project for the unit is a storybook, where Frenchies will extend, accept and refuse invitations to do things during different weather conditions and seasons. When they complete them, they are encouraged to read them to you!
