HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 3 Week 4 - 11 August
FROM MARK:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
To our One Dominic gang, let by Michelle Blythman and Teresa Willett, thank you for your fabulous presentation today! Assemblies don’t just happen, and we thank you very much indeed. What a way to start the day!
And, next week, our Pre-Primary Catherine will be on stage! We look forward to your company.
Thank you! Ash Borgas, ably assisted by Nathan Byrne, who chopped off a few branches to improve vehicle access to the oval. We appreciate your support, and expertise with the chainsaw!
Assumption Mass on Tuesday is a 'Holy Day of Obligation'. It is also Father Peter's final school mass before he leaves for Melbourne. As a farewell gift, we would like to invite each family to make a cash donation ($10 per family perhaps?) to make a gift to Father Peter, in appreciation of nine years of service to our community. If you can contribute, please leave your donation with Michèle at the office or with the teacher of your eldest child . Thank you for your support.
Best wishes
Mark de Kluyver
Principal

WHAT'S HAPPENING
There will be some change to assemblies once all children have received an Award for the year. We are going to take advantage of the ‘space’ to invite our drumming groups run by Brother Stephen, our choir run by Michelle Kirwan and supported by Mel Slattery, and the band run by Lachie Darby, to perform. We have not finalised ‘who’ and ‘when’ because the groups are in various stages of readiness, but we will advertise the details once they are finalised. This is a manifestation of building the music programme throughout our school. We still intend to finish as close to 9.30 as possible.
You will notice from the calendar that concerts are arranged for the last day of term for the students. These concerts mark the conclusion of the new ‘Musica Viva’ programme run by Michelle Kirwan. Michelle teaches the programme for a term and then a music ensemble comes to the school to lead concerts connected to what the children have learned over the term. Parents and guardians (and extended family) are very welcome to come along. This change to the term three programme – like Edudance in term one - provides you with the opportunity to see what children have been up to. We welcome your attendance.
SIGNING CHILDREN IN AND OUT
When signing children in late please remember to get a white Student card for them to hand to the teacher to show that they are signed in. When coming to school to collect children for an appointment or to take them home if they are sick, please sign them out before you collect them and take a Student card with you to hand to their teacher.
Condolences
We extend our sympathy to the Pearce family, whose son Tom, passed away a week ago. Tom was one of four boys, sons of Danny and Tracy, who went to our school. Danny did much of the building around the school, and his father Eric was for many years responsible for the management of the school finances. They had a long association with Holy Rosary. Many of you will remember this family. Please keep them in your prayers.
HOLY ROSARY COMMUNITY NEWS
A huge thank you to all of those who helped out at the Bunnings Sausage last weekend and thanks to those who came down to buy some food and drinks. A break from the wet weather meant we were quite successful in raising funds for the school.

GENERAL Notices
‘Central Park Plunge’ - Please help support my fundraising efforts in support of hospitalised children whose families need help provided through Ronald McDonald house.
I’m not sure if you’ve heard of the ‘Central Park Plunge’ where teams of people commit to raise money for a nominated charity by abseiling 220m down the side of the Central Park building in the city centre. It’s a high-profile activity designed to get people out of their comfort zone (which is about 51 above my comfort zone). I’m taking the plunge on Friday the 9 September.
Below is a link to the website where people can make a tax-deductable donation.
Thank you - Clint Hounsham

CEWA are assisting me with the promotion of the WA Caritas Team ‘Run for Africa’ (or walk), however I am personally inviting schools and people to participate. Essentially, we are inviting all schools and parishes to join in on the day. There are different distances 4km, 12km, half marathon and the marathon. John, I and the kids will be walking the 4 km walk to raise some funds and awareness of the poverty and impact of climate change on the poor and marginalised in Africa - particularly in Sudan. Note: All entering the race must be there 30 minutes before the race/walk begins.
Start times for each race: 4km- 7.55am; 12km- 8.45am (walk); 8.20-8.35am (run); 21km- 7.30am; 42km- 6am
There will be a gathering at the end of the race for the event and hoping at this stage that we will receive food (light lunch/ cakes/fruit) donated in support of this appeal for our runners or walkers. Do you know any businesses in our school who would be interested in promoting their business by providing some light refreshments? This will be a big story for our schools and parishes! In fact, I am hoping to contact Today show as we are having a Sudanese student running in this race for the Caritas WA Run for African Emergency Appeal. So, if there is any family who would be able to assist, please let the Office know and they will forward my details to you.
