Falcon Ridge Family Updates
September 27, 2021
News and Tidbits
I hope you had a wonderful weekend with your families.
We are looking forward to parent-teacher conferences this week. Your child's teacher has sent home an electronic sign-up sheet for parent-teacher conferences. The registration deadline is Tuesday at 3:00. This is such an important time to communicate and touch base with your child's teacher. Please be sure to stop by and say, "Hello".
Ms. Covell's 5th grade students have been invited to join Idaho Starbase this year. This program will provide field trip opportunities for our students to engage in inquiry based, hands-on, minds-on STEM activities at Gowen Field. (See PDF Starbase calendar at bottom of flyer)
Speaking of STEM opportunities, the Falcon Ridge Charter STEM Club will be starting soon. Mr. Wallas and Miss Heckathorn have been sending updated club information.
The middle school girls' volleyball season wraps up soon, so be sure to root for the team if you have not had a chance. We are so proud of their attitudes, teamwork, and skill!
This year's theme is "How Full is Your Bucket." We are learning ways to be bucket fillers through words and actions that demonstrate kindness and compassion.
Our character trait for September is respect, which means "a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements."
We have moved into the yellow category of operations. We will share a weekly update of the number of students/staff who are either in quarantine due to a possible exposure of Covid, or who have tested positive for Covid. Please see the graphic at the bottom of the newsletter.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jorgensen

Important Bus Information
As you know, there is a state-wide shortage of bus drivers and Falcon Ridge is no different. We are short one bus driver this year and have consolidated the four routes into three.
In the event that one of our three drivers needs to be out, we will need to cancel a route for that day. If we need to cancel a bus, you will receive a text and/or email as soon as we receive notification from the bus company. Please be prepared to make other arrangements if this occurs. If the bus driver is sick, the notice may come as late as the school morning.
Please have an emergency contact available who can transport your children if you are unavailable.

Before School Procedure
Self-Screening: If a student or staff member has any of the following symptoms, it indicates a possible illness that puts them at risk of spreading illness to others.
Symptoms requiring a student or staff member to stay home
A temperature of 100.0 degrees F or higher. Students and staff need to be fever free without the use of fever reducing medication for at least 24 hours before attending school.
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Sore throat with a fever greater than 100.0°. If they are diagnosed with Strep throat, then they should stay home until they have been on antibiotics for 24 hours.
Excessive coughing, which could include a cough that is prolonged, lasting more than a few weeks; any shortness of breath; difficulty breathing or wheezing; cough associated with fever, chills, sweating, or ill appearance; chest pain or painful cough; coughing up phlegm that is green, yellow, blood-stained, or foul smelling.
Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis). Keep the child home until a doctor has given the OK to return to school. Pink eye is highly contagious and in most cases is caused by a virus, which will not respond to an antibiotic. Bacterial conjunctivitis will require an antibiotic; your doctor will be able to determine if this is the case.
Other symptoms where students or staff members may need to stay at home
New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing or for students with chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Nausea
New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever
Parents and staff are expected to review these symptoms daily. It is up to the individual parent and staff member to determine if a person needs to stay home.
