RMS Classic Students Return To Campus

Happy Friday Wildcat Families!

Last night our VUSD board confirmed their decision that on Tuesday, October 20, Classic students will return to in person learning and our virtual students will remain virtual for the remainder of the semester.

On Monday, October 19, we will follow the Monday Virtual Bell Schedule that we have been following thus far. Our NEW BELL SCHEDULES will begin on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20. Please click on the schedules that are included below.

10.20.20: Updated Roosevelt Middle School Schedule for Vista Virtual-- PINK

10.20.20: Updated Roosevelt Middle School Schedule for Vista Classic-- GREEN

On Tuesday, October 20, our gates open at 7:30 am. Breakfast is available for all students. Our 6th graders will enter through the gate by H13 (signage will be posted) and our 7th and 8th graders will enter through our main gate into the lunch area. Students will be directed to line up by their first period classes by 8:20 am.

Please remember that it is crucial that our entire RMS community follow clear expectations so that we can return as safely as possible. These expectations will include procedures and requirements for...

  • wearing of face coverings
  • arrival and dismissal
  • one directional hallways during passing periods and lunch
  • social distancing inside and outside of the classroom
  • lunch procedures
  • bringing their charged Chromebook and personal supplies every day
  • practicing safe hygiene, including washing hands frequently and using hand sanitizer when entering classrooms
  • daily health screening of your student

To help our students understand and follow these expectations, we will be sharing an RMS COVID-19 Student Agreement that we will ask students and parents will sign. We really want to see our students, and we definitely want to see them safely! We will also be reviewing these guidelines in detail on the first day so that students understand all expectations.

We will need our families to be partners in these efforts to keep everyone safe by reinforcing these requirements and by ensuring that if students are showing ANY symptoms of COVID-19, they must not come to school. Please see the detailed information below on how to screen for symptoms and what to do if there has been confirmed exposure to or a confirmed case of COVID-19.

To support our staff at school, we have implemented many precautions as well, including providing the following:

  • Masks for each staff member
  • Daily self screening for each staff member and daily temperature checks
  • Hand sanitizer for each Classic classroom
  • Hand soap and paper towels for each restroom and rooms with sinks
  • Six new handwashing stations around campus
  • Cleaning supplies for every teacher if they choose to wipe down common areas or desks
  • Regular sanitizing throughout the day of restrooms and common areas
  • Isolation plans for anyone showing symptoms on campus
  • HEPA filters for any classroom that does not have opening windows
  • Social distancing, where possible, in classrooms. Please note that while the average number of students in our core classes is closer to 25, we will have classes that have up to 30 students. Our PE and elective classes are larger than that, but will be held outside or in the MPR. This makes it even more important that students follow their agreements.

Please view the video above for more detailed information. Students will be watching this video with their 1st period teacher on Zoom on Monday. We will also be covering these important details in the first few days of in-person learning once Classic students are on campus with us. Our RMS Covid-19 Prevention Plan is posted on our RMS Health and Safety website for your reference, along with other important documents such as:

Big picture

Virtual or Classic Student? How will I know?

If you do not know if your student is in our virtual or classic learning model, please watch this video by our counselors that will show you where to find this info in the student AERIES portal.

On Tuesday, October 20, ONLY STUDENTS IN THE CLASSIC SCHOOL MODEL will come to campus for in-person learning.

Am I Classic or Virtual?

RMS Virtual and Classic Bell Schedules

For students who have selected our "Vista Classic" model, VUSD is scheduled to return to in- person classes on October 20. When Vista Classic students return to campus, they will have the same classes and teachers that they have had since the beginning of the year.

Our schedule on Tuesday-Friday will remain the same for both Virtual and Classic students, with the only difference being that Classic students will be going to each of their classes throughout the day for each period in person.

Our Monday schedule for both Classic and Virtual students needs to change in order to accommodate the many staff members who are teaching both Classic and Virtual class periods. Please note that this does not mean that teachers are teaching both Classic and Virtual students in the same class period. Each period is designated as EITHER Classic OR Virtual. Similar to the high schools, we do have a few classes that will remain Virtual for the rest of the semester, but will have a few Classic students in them. For these rare circumstances, the Classic students in those periods will be in a classroom with a credentialed teacher who will be monitoring them as they continue to learn virtually from their teacher.

Both our Virtual and Classic schedules that will begin on October 20th are linked here. We will be working with the students prior to October 20th to ensure that they understand the schedule, but it's a great idea to take a look at these with your students and start to process with them what it will look like.
