ACT for all Juniors
Campo is excited to announce that the ACT will be administered to currently enrolled Juniors free of cost on Tuesday, February 27, 2018. This opportunity has been made possible by the Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education (ACPE) which awarded GPS with the Nationally Recognized College-Readiness Examination Pilot Program Expansion Grant. In order to provide the most productive testing environment for our Junior Class on Tuesday, February 27, this has been designated as a Testing Day at our GPS High Schools, which means only 11th grade students will report to their high school campus on this day. All 9th, 10th, and 12th will not attend school on this day. Bus routes will run as regularly scheduled to pick up Junior Class students that morning. Testing will begin at approximately 8am. Lunch will be available for the Junior Class at the conclusion of the testing session, and school will be dismissed at 1:30pm. Buses will also provide transportation home. For families with younger siblings, GPS elementary and junior high campuses will follow their regular campus schedule on this day.

Reminder about the 1st Period Sweep Program
This is only a first period program, all other periods of the day will be handled according to student handbook. The purpose of sweep is to keep the educational process going without numerous interruptions from tardy students; while promoting student responsibility and assisting them in learning the importance of accountability and punctuality.
Below is a brief explanation of sweep:
Students who do not arrive to their first hour class on time will be redirected to the sweep room. A parent or guardian must physically enter the building to sign in the late student, otherwise the student will be directed to sweep. Parent phone calls will not excuse the sweep.
While in sweep students will not be able to work on assignments, socialize, or use any electronic devices. Procedures will be in place for students to make up class work and tests they may have missed when they were in Sweep. If a student is swept on a test day, the teacher will allow the student to make up the test. Students who have an assignment due will deliver it to the teacher that same day. All students will be informed of how the Sweep program will be integrated into their school day.
Students who demonstrate repeated tardy behavior will be subject to the progression of interventions and disciplinary action in an effort to encourage and teach proper time management skills.
Consequences for sweep will go as follows:
1st Tardy Offense: Students will be sent to sweep for the remainder of the class period and it will be documented.
2nd Tardy Offense: Students will be sent to sweep for the remainder of the class period and receive a referral.
3rd Tardy Offense: Students will be sent to sweep for the remainder of the class period and assigned Saturday School.
Data will be collected on the effectiveness of the program as we believe the sweep program will benefit students, parents and teachers. We strive to give students every opportunity to be successful and the first step towards success is having prompt attendance.
Sincerely,
CVHS Administration

Marching Band Performs National Anthem at Diamondbacks Game
“The Star Spangled Banner,” our National Anthem, was written by Francis Scott Key in the form of a poem called “Defense of Fort McHenry” on September 14, 1814. Later put to music and adopted as our National Anthem in 1931, it is no doubt a song that holds a special place in the hearts of our Nation’s citizens. Our very own Coyote Pride Marching Band, led by Mr. Matt Kozacek, were honored to play the National Anthem before a sold out crowd at Chase field prior to the Nationally televised baseball game between the Diamondbacks and the Chicago Cubs on Sunday, August 13, 2017.
This was the culmination of a lot of hard work by our Band, their director, Mr. Kozacek, and the Band Booster Organization. The Marching Band spent many hours learning the rendition of the National Anthem Mr. Kozacek chose for them to perform. Once they had the song perfected, they were required to send in an audition tape to the Diamondbacks organization to be approved to perform. Meanwhile, our Band Booster Organization used this opportunity to help fund-raise for the program by selling 500 discounted tickets for family and friends to see this “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity live!
The day of the performance started hours before game-time. All band members met at the entrance and were checked in by the Diamondbacks personnel who treated our students and staff exceptionally well. They were brought into the stadium and directed to the area on the field where they were to perform to do several sound checks. At the same time, many of the Diamondbacks players were warming up and several stopped to listen and applaud for our band while they rehearsed. Once they finished their sound check, they had to wait for their call to the field. Finally, with game time approaching, they were once again escorted onto the field and introduced to the roaring crowd. Their performance was flawless and judging by the applause they received, it can be said that they represented Campo Verde, the Town of Gilbert, and our State extremely well!
Awesome job, Coyote Pride Marching Band!

#FindYourGrind
Are you a Follower, an Influencer or a Leader? Are you one who wishes, one who thinks or one who DOES? On Friday, January 12, Paws for a Cause community service club invited students from Student Council and Link Crew to join them for an amazing day of growth at Red Mountain High School. The students were challenged to reflect and decide if they are living for Likes or for Legacy.
Students from all over the state came to hear from Dr. Phil Campbell and Mike Smith. They danced, laughed, cried and learned much about themselves and what drives them. Junior, Laura Cooper and Advisor, Kathy Diggs were awarded #FindYourGrind Scholarships of $2500 each for their passion to serve others and lead. All in attendance walked away with ideas, enthusiasm and energy for changes they can make in themselves and in their community.
