Invisible Dad Program at Oakley Park
Every Child Deserves Lunch!
Hunger has many faces. In the United States, 2 out of 10 children suffer from a form of hunger that is not readily portrayed in the media but it is also a kind of hunger that we can put an end to right here in our own communities. This kind of hunger is called Food Insecurity and it takes the form of children being forced to skip meals, eating cheap unhealthy snacks to fill their stomachs between “meals”.
In Walled Lake Schools, the 12 WL elementary schools have adopted the Invisible Dad program which entitles all children to a school lunch, even if a student’s lunch account does not have money in it. Invisible Dad accounts have been set up at our schools to cover lunch for children whose parents have forgotten, are unable, or for whatever reason have not kept their account up-to-date. Parents receive a confidential notification that their child has accessed the Invisible Dad account and they are given an opportunity to update the account, complete a Free and Reduced Lunch form or to talk to a school administrator.
For more information on the Invisible Dad Program, visit the program's webpage.
TO DONATE: Please make a check out to Walled Lake Food Service with Oakley Park: Invisible Dad in the “memo” line.Nut/Food Allergy Reminders
Halloween candy poses a HUGE concern to parents of students with life- threatening allergies. Classroom teachers and parent volunteers will work together to plan the Halloween classroom parties and all party menus must be reviewed by the classroom teacher. Please DO NOT send food items to school that have not been approved by the teacher for the class parties.
Many are aware that Epi-pens are a commonly prescribed medication for people identified as being at risk of life-threatening allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) caused by allergens, exercise, or unknown triggers; and for people who are at increased risk for these reactions. An EpiPen® is intended for immediate administration as emergency supportive therapy only until emergency medical help intervene. Having an EpiPen is not a guaranteed "cure" not does it "protect" a person from the reaction escalating.
Oakley Park lends a helping hand!
Oakley Park is partnering up with 'Your Salon' to collect bathroom supplies to donate to D.R.A.W.
What is DRAW?

Calling all Kindergarten and First Grade girls!
Oakley Park is forming a new Girl Scout Troop and we’d love you & your daughter to be a part of this wonderful experience. Daisy is the first level of scouting followed by Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior, and then Ambassador. Our area participates with Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM). To find out more about them, you can visit the website at www.gssem.org.
The commitment involves the following:
- joining Girl Scouts ($25)
- buying the uniform (approx $35 and lasts for two years if starting in KG)
- attending meetings (about twice a month)
- paying the yearly troop dues (usually $20 to $30 and covers the costs of badges, crafts, trips, events, etc.)
- bringing snack for the troop (usually only 1 or 2 times a year)
- having fun
There are several opportunities for you (the adult) to be involved. You could be a troop co-leader, treasurer, field trip organizer, crafter, cookie leader, or meeting helper - just to name a few. It is truly a rewarding experience and a great way to bond with your girl (and her new troop full of friends).
If you have any questions, please feel free to email/call/text Kimberly Blaine
