STEM Academy Distance Learning
What will this process look like, and where do we go?
DIRECTOR'S DIALOGUE
STEM Families,
I hope that this message finds you and your family well. I know that our students may be nervous or anxious during this time. The decision for the district to implement school closure was not an easy one, and we are all transitioning in to this time together.
Beginning Monday, March 23rd our students will be presented with an online platform for learning. For many of our students this will not be difficult. They have already had classes that presented materials using flipped instruction where the teacher presented the lesson online before the students came to class. I know that much of the correspondence that you have been receiving mention that the students throughout the district will be using Google Classroom. STEM Academy, because we have already been using an online learning management system for so long, has opted to continue the use of Blackboard (Moodle). This is the program with which our students are most familiar, so in an effort to maintain normalcy we have opted to stay the course. Having said that, we have some supports that are contained herein in order to help you and your student during this time.
We also realize that for some families access to technology or the internet may prove to be a challenge. As a district we are working through that right now. I appreciate that so many of you have already gone online in order to complete our technology form. This was helpful in determining how many packets to make at both the middle school and the high school. If you have not yet had the opportunity to share information regarding your technology, would you please take just a moment to let us know by clicking on this link https://forms.gle/U7MKf9wWuQLg8cVo7?
Stay safe and healthy during our time apart. We miss all of our STEM family members and hope to see you online really soon!

HELP! How do I help my student navigate through Blackboard in order to find courses and resources?
When my student needs help, how will s/he access the teacher?
Our teachers have set up a daily Blackboard Collaborate session in order to assist students with their assignments and to answer questions. By clicking on the link below you will have access to direct links to each teacher's Blackboard (Moodle) page and the questioning forum, in addition to the Collaborate space. It is also available on our middle school and high school webpages. We hope that these face-to-face "office hour" sessions will allow students to feel supported and involved in spite of our distances at this time.
As always, our teachers are available through email for those needing assistance outside of their "office hours". We truly want to be available to assist your student how and when our help is needed!
