Term 2 Week 1 Friday 23 April

Big picture

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back! I’m guessing most of us will not have travelled as far as we would have liked over the holidays, but trust that everyone is well rested, ready to go! Here’s to a ‘normal’ term, where we get the best out of ourselves and these eleven weeks. Beginning on ‘Thankful Tuesday’ as we know it when we Make Jesus Real, I think that the message of giving and of gift, when truly embraced, makes a difference to those around us, and to ourselves. Long may it continue.

Rob Flexman’s preparation for and management of today’s carnival was - again - exceptional. It was a terrific day! Thanks very much Rob, and to our staff, together with the many parents who bought in and volunteered to make it so good.

Welcome to our new staff, Imogen Bath who joins the Kindy Dominic team, and Mike Thacker who will be teaching our Year Four Dominic Gang. We are so delighted to have you both join Holy Rosary and wish you every success!

Year Six students receive the sacrament of Confirmation this term, a significant step on their faith journey which we support as a whole school. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

The calendar is as good as we can get it. If any changes have to be effected we will let you know as soon as we know.

It is fantastic to be back.

Best wishes for the ANZAC weekend, see you Tuesday.

Common sense and high standards prevail.

Punctuality - please have children to school on time. That way they don’t miss out on a calm and organised start to the day, and they don’t disrupt their classmates.

Supervision of children from Years 1-6 is available from 8.15am and is only available in the undercover area. All children in Years 1-6 arriving before the 8.45 am bell are required to remain in the undercover area and not be anywhere else. Parents and guardians requiring supervision before that time, and after 3.15pm, have the option of enrolling their children in our Discovery Kids before and after school care at https://www.discoverykidsoshc.com/

Children in Pre kindy (9am), Kindy (9am) and Pre-primary (8.30-8.45am) are required to be brought to class by an adult.

School finishes at 3.00pm (Pre-kindy and Kindy) and at 3.05pm (Preprimary to Year 6). The Pre kindy and Kindy playground closes at 3.00pm and is not an after school play area. Likewise our main oval is closed from 3.00pm.

The Dominican Playground remains open until 3.20pm for children to have a short play but only if parents and guardians are actively supervising them. If active supervision is not happening then they must leave as soon as school finishes. At 3.30pm Discovery Kids OSHC assume control over the Dominican Playground.

Winter Uniform is worn this term and all children Years 1-6 are expected to be in complete and correct uniform, details available in the link below:

99% of parents used the drive through brilliantly yesterday – THANK YOU.

This parent however blocked the exit lane, parking on top of the KEEP CLEAR signs. It turned what was an orderly exit into a dog’s breakfast. The driver is now aware of this.

Mothers, Grandmothers and significant females in the lives of our students are invited to attend a special Mothers' Day Mass at 9am on Friday 7th May in honour of Our Lady and mothers everywhere. The Mass will be followed by a morning tea in the Parish Centre.

A slideshow presentation will be shown before and after the Mass. If you would like a photo (mothers, grandmothers and significant females with students) included in this presentation, could you please forward it through (preferably in JPEG form) to admin@hrs.wa.edu.au before 3pm on Wednesday 5 May.

We look forward to being able to come together as a school community to celebrate this special occasion while reflecting on 200 years of Catholic Education in Australia.

We started our library sessions with The Last Post this week in honour of Anzac Day this Sunday. We are fortunate to be able to participate in the many services around Perth this year.

Our Scholastic Book Fair is in Week 4! Our HR students love the Fair, the Library Monitors love the responsibility and the library loves all the free books and resources we receive as a result!

The fair will run on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before and after school and will open at lunchtimes to students. To assist in social distancing, parents of each year group will be given their own time to attend. If you are able to help out at the fair, please complete the form below or contact me via the front office. Thank you so much for your support of this library fundraiser.

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them." - For the Fallen, Laurence Binyon
