From our AISD Strategic Plan
Every AISD student is a designer of the changing world. They are producers and contributors, not just consumers. Engaged, not compliant. Persistent learners and doers with flexible skillsets that help them thrive in a world that is connected and in perpetual change. AISD is a community of learners connected to other communities of learners.
From the Principal's Inbox This Week:
From Melissa Dunaway to Mariel Early:
I thought I would share. I told you how well the strategies were working and my thoughts, but in addition I have a Galaxy tablet and was able to set up each class on the random name picker app. It puts it right at hand and I don't have to toggle between doc camera/PC or site to site. It did not work as easily on my ipad.
The following site: www.aschool.us has a flash random name picker that goes much faster. It also has a feature where you can put in a group size and it will immediately create random pairs/groups for the teacher.

Maybe This Column Should Be Called "Dear Mariel"
Today, I did the backward word find. That was very illuminating and most of the classes came up with the same words. Erik came up with really good ones. (in hindsite, I should have looked up pictures illustrating the words I predicted they wouldn't know to help me with the explanations) From there I had them pair up and take turns reading and summarizing each paragraph and then I used Random picker to have them share their summary sentences.
After that, I used QSSSR and asked questions about the reading using the random picker and sentence stems.
Gretchen and I worked on that lesson together.
