Bulldog Bulletin
Elementary School- June, 2023
Hello Honeoye Families!
I know it was last weekend, but I hope everyone was able to enjoy a happy Memorial Day. As the daughter and sister of 3 military men, I really like to be thoughtful and take pause in remembrance of what Memorial Day means. Today I share two quotes that I read with my own children, so that we could reflect on our gratitude for the sacrifice so many have made in service to our country:
"May we never forget our fallen comrades. Freedom isn't free."
- Sgt. Major Bill Paxton
"Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices."
- Harry S. Truman
To those in uniform serving today and to those who have served in the past, we also honor you- thank you!

It's hard to believe it's June! June is a month where windows open and people emerge from houses for longer stretches of time bursting with optimism. With optimism comes creativity, and that is what we are celebrating this month. Creativity is defined as “the use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work.” We will working to find our creativity this month, helping our students “make their mark!”

Partnership with Our Community
- It is more important now than ever that we unite together as a community to monitor, communicate, and help one another in the early detection and prevention of violence in our schools.
- Please have conversations with your children about social media and the importance of reporting posts which include violent or threatening content.
- We need everyone’s eyes and ears. If you see or hear something, say something. Please contact the school directly or use our confidential tip line, Safe School Helpline, to report anything that you feel would impact the safety of our students, staff, or community members 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The district is alerted immediately by Safe School Helpline and investigates all reports internally and with local law enforcement, as applicable.
- SAFE SCHOOL HELPLINE
- Use the Safe School Helpline to report threats of violence, suicide and illegal activity that could harm students in our schools.
- You can call the number any time of the day or night to report concerns about unsafe or potentially disruptive activities or situations including drug or alcohol abuse, weapons, or threats.
- All calls are completely confidential.
- How can I report information?

As always, thank you Honeoye,

Mindfulness Corner
It's springtime, and we are busy creatures! The days are getting longer and it's not unusual to feel a little overwhelmed, but don’t fret! Through mindfulness, we can shift our thinking from "I'm feeling overwhelmed!!!! AHHH" to "I'm feeling overwhelmed and it's going to be okay". It means accepting our stress and working with it, not against it. This is mindfulness, and our students benefit from mindfulness as well. The therapy technique called Grounding is a tool psychologists and counselors have been using to treat anxiety, PTSD, etc. for decades. It's a simple mindfulness technique. The goal is to identify elements in the world around you. Read more about it here:
A second skill is breathing! Yes - we all breathe, but we don't all breathe properly, which can actually cause our brain to THINK we're anxious. This is something that might be fun to practice together! Check it out...
Proper Breathing Brings Better Health
Click here for a visual that helps with breathing. It's really cool!
Challenge yourself to make it a goal to really pay attention to your breathing and see if you notice a difference in how you feel.
Have fun with this!
