Welcome to Charla Anderson's Class
Great Start to the Year
Thank you for your wonderful children.
Well, I had heard nice things about this class of students and the students have lived up to their reputation. I hope you have heard about our second grade celabration late last Friday afternoon. They earned it and I expect there will be lots more to come.
Math Lessons
In math, we are studying quite a bit already. We are studying place value, time and worked on math fluency of basic facts. Your child has learned what a place value graphic organizer is and how to use it, as well as how to compare and order numbers with the greater than (>), less than (<) and equal (=) signs. We have studied how to use a number line to add and subtract and learned how to prove answers. Proving answers by showing work and calculations is VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!
For math fluency, we have used the 100 chart and place value graphic organizer to find answers that are 10 more and 10 less. We are skip counting by 10's, 5's and will count by 2's next.
Please allow your child to go to www.firstinmath.com to practice math fluency, time and place value skills. They will get their login information tomorrow.
Social Studies Lessons
In Social Studies, we have studied the 6 CHARACTER TRAITS: Respect, Responsibility, Caring Courage, Honesty and Fairness. We have illustrated this vocabulary in pictures and discussed past experiences and examples of the traits, and composed our Class Social Contract. I am pleased to say that everyone has signed the social contract.
We have also begun to study COMMUNITIES. We will compare and contrast the similaries and differences between 3 communities: rural, suburban and urban. Science will begin next week.
