Barton Bobcats

Parent Weekly Newsletter: Jan 24th to Jan 28th

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Howdy Bobcats! It is hard to believe that we are already 3-weeks in to the second semester. Reminder that next Tuesday our 8th graders will be walking over to HHS to complete their HS visits. All students are beginning the course selection process, so please visit with your Bobcats and assist them in making the choices that are in their best interests. Families will have three opportunities to make changes and ensure that the choices are accurate.

If your Bobcat has missed school due to illness or quarantining, please ensure that they are checking the Schoology homepages of each of their courses to locate missing assignments. If students are capable of completing work when they are out it is strongly recommended, but not required.

Each week our campus expectation is that every student complete 4 ReadingPlus lessons. We have designated time on Mondays and Wednesdays during Advisory to accomplish that task. If students get 4 green boxes (indicating they completed 4 lessons at 80% accuracy), they earn Friday Funday outside. Please help encourage your Bobcats to get these lessons completed weekly. The lessons reset every Sunday at midnight and can be completed anywhere the student has a device and an internet connection.

Just a heads up, we will be hosting another student dance on February 11th from 6-9pm. Tickets will go on sale through Revtrak on Monday, January 24th. More details to come soon!

Living The Dream,

Mr. Loyd

8th Grade Tour of HHS

On Tuesday, 1/25, 8th grade students will go to Hays High School for a campus tour and presentation on course opportunities at the high school. Lunch will be provided, but students are welcome to bring a lunch if they prefer. We will leave at 8:45 and return to campus at 1:00. Please keep in mind that 8th grade students will be off campus at that time and that, if they need to be checked out, parents will have to check the student out at Barton then go to Hays to pick them up.

Hays Technology Protection Plan Information

We have had A LOT of broken screens and damaged devices being sent to District Technology Repair folks lately, and many parents have been inquiring about the District’s “Insurance” for the Chromebooks. As part of the borrowing agreement, parents are responsible for the cost of the parts that need replacement – up to the cost of the device itself. This can run anywhere from $30 to $250.

Please consider purchasing the Hays Technology Protection Plan. It could save you a lot of money if your student damages or loses their District Chromebook. Please click the link above to read the Coverage Details. Please note that the plan does not cover lost chargers – only the device itself.

If you are interested in purchasing a Protection Plan, please click this link. It will take you to the Revtrack payment page that you purchase from. It also has some contact information if you have any questions.

We want the very best for your child. It is our intent to educate our students and ensure they achieve academic success. When students miss school, they miss valuable instructional time.

According to the Texas Education Code and House Bill 2610, students are required to receive at least 75,600 minutes of instruction during the school year. Students must be in attendance at least 90% of the instructional minutes per year in order to receive credit for the year.

If your student will be absent for any reason please send a note, doctor’s note, or kindly email us at BMS.Attendance@hayscisd.net

Documentation needs to be submitted within 5 days of the absence.

Please include: Student’s full name, ID #, Date(s) of absence, Reason for absence, Parent contact phone number, Parent signature (or electronic signature if sent by email).

COVID Exposure & Quarantine

Once we receive notice that a COVID positive person has been on our campus during their infectious period the following will occur. Email notifications will be sent with a dashboard of number of cases reported on campus for that day. The notification will include all classrooms that the covid positive person(s) was in on the included dates. The parent must check the listed classrooms to determine if their child was in those same classes. The policy is that anyone in the same classroom with the covid positive person is considered to be a close contact exposure. The parent is responsible for notifying attendance by sending a copy of the email

to BMS.attendance@hayscisd.net if you choose to keep your child home on quarantine. Quarantine is not required for at school exposures at this time. Masking is recommended following covid exposure.

Below is the link to the new school protocols based on the updated CDC guidelines. If you have questions regarding quarantine and school protocols please contact the school nurse at christi.chabarria@hayscisd.net
