We Made Our Goal!- Lemonade Stand
Our NWE community raised OVER $10,000 one lemon at a time this summer! So incredible! This does not even count the t-shirts which raised an additional $1500-2000 (need to get exact numbers).
A few different ideas for a school-wide celebration are in the works but none are confirmed yet. Stay tuned and let us know if you have any ideas.
Lastly, 1st grade won the grade-wide incentive and earned a parents v. students kickball game and Little's Ice Cream party one evening coming soon.
Thank you to our wonderful and supportive families for making this happen. It is truly a joy to be a part of the North Wales Family!
Literacy Update For The Week
WIT AND WISDOM
In Wit and Wisdom, knowledge is obtained through five content stages. They are Wonder, Organize, Reveal, Distill, and Know.
During the Reveal Stage: Students go deeper into the text to explore an element of the author’s craft, analyze the text’s structure and its meaning. During this stage, some of the instructional routines include: Analyzing and annotating, making a graphic organizer to document the effects a particular element has on the text’s meaning.
Cultural Highlights Of The Week
Hispanic Heritage Month- Book Highlight
The Magical Yet! - by: Angela DiTerilizzi
"Each of us, from the day we’re born, is accompanied by a special companion—the Yet. Can’t tie your shoes? Yet! Can’t ride a bike? Yet! Can’t play the bassoon? Don’t worry, Yet is there to help you out. The Magical Yet is the perfect tool for parents and educators to turn a negative into a positive when helping children cope with the inevitable difficult learning moments we all face.
This beautiful book teaches about the power of “yet” when a child is feeling frustrated and discouraged (e.g., when learning a new instrument, soccer skill, math lesson, etc.). With a magical fairy-like Yet, this story teaches a child that “if you keep leaping, dreaming, wishing–waiting, learning, trying, missing/ With the Yet as your guide, along the way/ You’ll do all of the things you can’t do today.”
I look forward to reading this book to our students in grades K-3 this month.
Here are some foods for you and your family to try as we celebrate HispanicHeritage Month:
Empanadas are pastry shells stuffed with fillings and baked or fried to golden perfection. These are shaped like a crescent moon. They are little hand held pies that are filled with a variety of fillings. They can be filled with meats mixed with peppers, onions, or olives.
Authentic Mexican tacos were made with pressed soft-shell corn tortillas. The hard taco shell was invented in the 1940s to create a more portable or easily carried version of the taco.
Churros are long, sweet fried-dough pastries that are normally served with a dipping sauce of chocolate or dulce de leche. A popular street food, churros are also served for breakfast or as a dessert.
Tres leches (three milks) cake consists of a sponge cake or butter cake soaked in three different types of milk: evaporated milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream. This fluffy cake becomes moist and delicious once the milk and cream are absorbed.
Bunuelos are a fried dough fritter, or type of donut, that is shaped into a ball or a flattened disk and covered with cinnamon and sugar. Perfect as a snack or dessert, bunuelos are a simple, tasty treat that's enjoyed throughout Spain and Latin American countries.
