Surviving Super Scary Hailstorms
Step by Step Tutorial On Not Dying in Hailstorms
Precautions
- Umbrellas (even though the hail might break it, but if it's small it'll bounce right off).
- Closure of all windows and close the shades or curtains in case of breakage of glass.
- Making a plan beforehand and have a kit that probably should include water, food, portable radios, etc. since you might not be leaving your (hopefully) safe and secure protected area.
- Checking to make sure your roof is sturdy, and that it won't break too much when hailstones hit it.
During The Storm
- Don't try to go outside. If you want a concussion and a dent in your head, go ahead.
- Stay away from windows. They can break and cause a bunch of injures. So yeah, stay away.
- If you're outside, FIND SHELTER IMMEDIATELY. Stay out of places that might flood with water if you can't find shelter, since hail most often occurs during thunderstorms or other storms like that.
During the Storm... In A Car
- If you're in a car, STOP DRIVING. If you can see a protected area up ahead, that's an exception.
- Stay away from car windows. They're dangerous too. The windows do protect you for awhile, but don't get too cozy. They might shatter on your head.
- Don't leave the car while it's hailing. The car is pretty safe if it isn't hailing too much. It's also a lot safer than it is outside. Try not to get too many dents in your had if you do get stuck outside though. You might want to cover your head so you aren't struck into a stupor. Pun intended.
After the Storm
- Make sure that the hail has actually stopped before you leave your safe haven.
- Check for damage around you.
- Cover any of those broken windows and holes in the roof as to prevent water from intruding into your house and sneaking around like a ninja while causing damage.
Conclusion
- Stay away from windows. They are fragile against hail and weak, so find something sturdier to hide in or under. Glass is too breakable for its own good.
- Close all shutters and curtains.
- Find shelter and avoid gong outside.
- Cover breakage and have it fixed by professionals in case there is more things broken then visible to the eyes.
- Oh, and don't forget to protect kids. They'll probably want to play with the broken glass. Don't ask. I have no idea why.
