Update from the Tiger Mathletes' State Championship Sweepstakes

The Tiger math team celebrated a ninth-place win among Division 5 schools and a fourteenth-place win in the Overall Sweepstakes at the Math League’s Texas State Championship held online on Saturday, May 9, 2020. They competed with 202 students state-wide, representing 41 public and independent schools.

In the individual category, Aayan Cheema earned a tenth-place finish among fourth grade participants. His scores earned him the right to advance to the U.S. National Championship and recognition as one of the best mathletes in the state.

West Cypress Hills marks its fifth consecutive year of attendance at the State Championship and fourth consecutive year having at least one student advance to the national level. The seventh annual U.S. National Elementary Championship will be held at Texas A&M University on June 13, 2020, pending changes in public health guidelines.

The online prepackaged grade level supplies can be ordered until June 12, 2020. *3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Students also need to have student planners for the 2020-2021 school year. These are sold separately from the prepackaged supply kits. Planners cost $6 each. When Tigers can't go to the garden, Cassie McDaniel brings the garden to our Tigers

Especially at this beautiful time of year, our Tigers normally would be enjoying part of their class time learning while in the West Cypress Hills Garden.

Since the Tigers can't come to the garden, on behalf of our fabulous PTO, Mrs. Cassie McDaniel has brought the garden to our Tigers!

Mrs. McDaniel created a slide show that includes photos that she took in the West Cypress Garden. The slide show was then shared with all of our teachers so that they could include it in our online Tiger learning. It is amazing that Mrs. McDaniel took the time to provide our Tigers with such a lovely, educational garden experience.

Thank you, Mrs. McDaniel! Thank you for making West Cypress Hills a great place to be! And, thank you for taking such loving care of our garden.

PTO's Parent Mixer Auction Will Now Be an Online Auction May 15 - 21!

As you all know, we had to cancel our PTO Parent Mixer that was scheduled for the end of March. The PTO had already collected some AMAZING items from local businesses and beyond and were planning on an auction the night of the mixer. However, since we were unable to do that, our fabulous PTO is holding an online auction May 15 through May 21! Yay!

Proceeds from this auction will go toward the support of our students and teachers, both at WCHE and RHE. We know this is a really weird time for all of you, but we hope to come together to raise money for a good cause. In addition, the local businesses especially need our patronage right now more than ever!

The auction runs from 8 am on May 15 to 9 pm on May 22. The auction is being held using Bid Beacon which can be accessed at the Bid Beacon website. The auction invitation code is 2KLEFE. After you've registered an account with Bid Beacon, select the Join Auction button, enter code 2KLEFE, and you will be taken to the auction.

How to Bid: You can bid on items either from the Bid Beacon website or the Bid Beacon App. Find the item of interest, and at the bottom of the screen there will be a Bid button. The bid amount is automatically incremented the minimum amount, or you can adjust the bid with + and – buttons, or tap on price to enter new amount, before clicking Bid. While in the app, you will get a popup to let you know if you have been outbid. If this happens, click Open to view the item and place another bid. If outside of the app, you will get a push notification to let you know that you've been outbid, assuming you opted in to push notifications.

Did I Win? When the auction ends, you will be sent an email containing a list of your winnings. In the app there will be a View Results button that you can click to see a list of your winnings.

How do I pay for winnings? All winning auction items will be paid for in Cheddar Up. After you’ve been notified of your win you will go to the CheddarUp link provided and submit your full payment. All payments are due within 48 hours of the auction conclusion. Accepted forms of payment in Cheddar Up are credit card or e-check. Service charges apply.

How do I collect the items I won during the auction? After the auction is over and payments have been completed, there will be a scheduled contactless pick up of each item with the winner. Please make sure that your email address is correct in Cheddar Up when you complete your payment. Items must be picked up and cannot be mailed.

District to offer summer school online for eligible students, suspend summer child care and recreational programs

Dear Lake Travis ISD Staff, Parents and Guardians,

As we approach the final days of the current school year, we must also begin to look towards summer and make decisions that are in the best interest of our staff, students and school community. With that in mind, due to the continued uncertainty caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, we will offer our academic summer school programs for eligible students online.

Additionally, with the health and wellness of staff and students as our guiding principle, we are suspending our 2020 Summer Camps and Summer Squires programs through June 30th. In the meantime, we will assess whether or not our district can safely and feasibly offer some level of recreational programming in July. We are monitoring developments daily and will communicate updates as quickly as possible. We acknowledge the hardship this places on parents to find other child care services and understand this is an inconvenience. We also recognize the impact on our many instructors and coaches who earn additional income through our summer programs. However, please understand that this decision was not made in haste. Our Office of Community Programs will begin processing refunds to families who had previously enrolled in our Summer Camps and/or Cavs Course.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding summer school, you may contact your campus principal. For questions or concerns about our Summer Squires or Summer Camp programs, I encourage you to contact the Lake Travis ISD Office of Community Programs at communityprograms@ltisdschools.org, or at 512-533-6011. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding during this time.

Sincerely,

Brad Lancaster, Ed.D.

Student Health Services

Monday, March 23, Lake Travis ISD staff began providing free meals to children 0-18 years of age. Packaged breakfast and lunch are available for pickup together between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. at each of our three middle school campuses:

Meals are provided in drive-through fashion at the bus drop-off location at each middle school campus. Parents do not need to exit their vehicle. As of March 26, the US Department of Agriculture allows school districts to serve meals to a parent or guardian without his/her children having to be present in the vehicle. However, there are guidelines parents and guardians must follow. Guided by the USDA, the Texas Department of Agriculture requires the parent or guardian to present validation of their children with any one (1) of the following options:

  1. Official letter/email/electronic school application from the school listing the indiviudal child's current enrollment
  2. Report card for each individual child
  3. Attendance record from parent portal of the school website, printed or electronic, for each individual child
  4. School ID of each individual child

Please note, hot meals are not provided. Instead, meals consist of packaged cereals, sandwiches, fruit, vegetables, fruit juice, milk and/or water.

While some of you may be eager to volunteer your time and services during our meal pickup, we must keep in mind and adhere to local and state restrictions limiting public gatherings. Our outstanding food service department has this under control. We sincerely appreciate your concern and willingness to help.

For more information, visit the Coronavirus section on the Lake Travis ISD website, or email foodservice@ltisdschools.org.

Field Trip Updates

In order to keep our Tigers sheltered safely at home, all of our spring field trips planned for March through May were canceled. Some of our first and fourth graders' families had already paid for their field trips and may, therefore, be concerned about the funds turned in to teachers before we realized that the field trips could not take place.

Please rest assured that we have deposited your payments, have recorded your payments, and have a record of the resulting credit balance of each family.

And, we have plans to ensure that you receive full credit for your payment(s.)

  • For students returning to West Cypress Hills Elementary School for the 2020-2021 school year, the credit balance due your family for West Cypress Hills' canceled field trips will be applied toward the purchase price of West Cypress Hills classroom t-shirts and/or field trips that take place during the 2020-2021 school year.
  • For students who are not attending West Cypress Hills Elementary School during the 2020-2021 school year, a refund check will be issued to your family by West Cypress Hills Elementary School by the end of the school year. Please complete the WCHE Field Trip Refund Request Form to request your reimbursement check.

Update on Yearbook Deliveries

We understand from the publisher of our yearbooks that their facilities are currently closed. This means that the 2019-2020 yearbooks are not scheduled to be published and delivered to West Cypress Hills until late summer/early fall. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause your family.

When the 2019-2020 WCHE yearbooks arrive, we will notify everyone through our Tiger Talk and put a notice on our website. We will ask Rough Hollow Elementary and Lake Travis Middle School to publish notifications, too. Here is our plan for yearbook delivery:

  • For Tigers returning to WCHE for the 2020-2021 school year, the 2019-2020 yearbooks will be delivered to them when school is in session next fall.
  • For 5th Grade Tigers moving on to middle school, we will have your yearbook delivered to you at your middle school.
  • For Tigers who will be RHE Rattlers next year, your yearbook will be delivered to RHE for delivery to you there.
  • And, for those who did not order a yearbook but wish to purchase one, the yearbooks will be available for purchase at the front desk of WCHE on a first-come-first-served basis during the 2020-2021 school year.
