Walk a Thon Fun!

What a day it has been! Walk a Thon was a huge success! There is so much that goes into making an event like this be so successful. I want to extend a huge thank you to the PTA Walk a Thon Committee for the organization of this great event and a special thank you to the PTA parent volunteers and the DHS students that gave of their time today. I also want to give a huge thank you to all of our corporate sponsors and a very special thank you to every family that participated. This year at least 70% of our students donated. That is fantastic! A total of over $16,000 was collected from our corporate donors in 2021 and $12,088.75 was collected from families this fall. It was apparent that several piggy banks were cleaned out in the process!

All money earned directly supports the students and staff of Starside. Some of the things that this money will go towards are field trips and transportation, support for classroom supplies, technology to enhance learning, enrichment opportunities and staff appreciation.

Since we surpassed our earning goal, let the prizes begin. There will be Starside stickers passed out for early turn ins, popsicle parties for classes where all participated, a pep rally for students who gave $25 or more, the Zoo to You experience for kids who raised $50 or more and the top donors will get a chance to cover me with silly string!! That’s right…silly string!! I can hardly wait! I’m thinking I need to pick up a shower cap and some goggles:)

Lastly, seeing all the family participation during the event today made me proud and warmed my heart! It is great to be back together as a big group. Below are a few pictures to enjoy that were taken today.

Community Service

Community service hours should be tallied from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. Attached you will find a form for tracking service hours. All service hours are due no later than Monday, April 4th this school year.

The definition of service under the President’s Volunteer Service Award program includes any activity that has a significant impact on meeting the needs of the community. Some examples of services include helping with community organizations, school-based programs, scouting services, or any effort to help others.

Students are responsible for keeping track of ALL of their community service hours including hours completed at Starside such as Comet Guard. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at Starside at 667-6270 ext. 2196 or e-mail me at Thank you for your support.
