Cape's Mission & Vision
Vision: We believe that the most promising strategy for achieving the mission of Cape Elementary is to develop our capacity to function as a professional learning community.
A Message From Your Administrators
Dear Cape Elementary Families,
Cape Elementary is proud to share our school grade, “B,” awarded by the Florida Department of Education. We would like to recognize our students, teachers, staff, volunteers and community members for their commitment and dedication to Cape. We are so proud!
As the 2018-19 school year gets underway, we have welcomed 100 new Kindergarten families and over 40 new students across the other grade levels. Our parent teacher group, PTO, and our volunteer coordinator are ready to recruit new members for our many fun and exciting events scheduled this year. Please consider giving your time to help! This is a great way to meet other parents and to be part of the school’s support system.
As we strive for excellence, we welcome your involvement. Communication is vital to student success and to our overall growth and sense of community. To increase communication between home and school, we are requiring all parents to sign the planner each night and our teachers to sign each day. Please take time to read the Student-Parent Handbook in the back of the planner and to peruse our school calendar. In conjunction with reading the teacher communication that comes each Monday in the brown envelope, we also encourage you to visit our website and follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
We continue to expand our safety procedures with staff, teachers and students. Please remember to keep your phone number and email updated during the year. Each time there is a school event during the day, all visitors will need to provide a photo identification. The school district will install a camera and buzz-in system on our main office front door sometime this year.
We are honored and privileged to be part of the Cape family. We appreciate the phone calls, emails, offers to help and expressions of gratitude each day. We look forward to working together to make sure your student has a memorable and enjoyable experience at Cape Elementary.
Sincerely,
Nicole Osterholm and Kristi Sund

We Need A Parent.....Help!
Cape Elementary needs a parent to represent our school on the District Advisory Council. The DAC committee meets at the Lee County Public Education Center once a month(2nd or 3rd Wednesday of the month) from 6:00 p.m. to about 7:00 p.m. The district would like input from parents and also share out information. Our representative would also bring back information to Cape and share with our PTO and Cape’s School Advisory Council. Let Nicole Osterholm know if you are interested.
Message from PTO
The 18-19 School Year is off to a great start! Thanks to everyone who stopped by our Meet the Teacher table and the BooHoo/WooHoo Breakfast to say hello!
Due to the fundraising efforts of our families last year, over the summer we were able
to purchase new rugs for all of our kindergarten classrooms as well as 2 picnic tables
for our playground. These improvements would not be possible without the support
of our Cape families!
Our Yankee Candle fundraiser packets will go home by Friday, August 24th.
This is an awesome way to purchase quality products while supporting our school!
All of the information will be included in your packet, but feel free to email us at capeelementarypto@gmail.com if you have any questions. Fundraiser orders must be turned in by Friday, September 14th. Your orders will arrive in plenty of time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
We will be hosting a Family Skate Night at The Palace on Sunday, August 26th from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Admission is free and skate rental is $4.00.
Our first PTO/SAC meeting will be held Wednesday, September 5th from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Media Center. Stop by and learn Who PTO is, What we do, and How YOU can help! Hope to see you there.
Thank you for supporting CAPE!!

August Counseling Corner
Welcome to the 2018-19 school year at Cape Elementary! This year we provided 30 backpacks for students to kick off the school year with the help of our community partner Cape Coral First United Methodist Church and our fabulous PTO. Thank you to everyone who supported this project to make sure every student had what he or she needed to start the year off right. If you are in need of a backpack or supplies for school, please stop by the front office. We still have backpacks and supplies available.
Cape Elementary is a Positive Behavior Interventions & Support school. We are looking forward to offering a school-wide SOAR celebration each quarter and classroom incentives for students who follow our school SOAR expectations.
The district-wide character word for August is Responsibility. This involves accountability for personal choices, obligations, and duties. The quote for the month: “The price of greatness is responsibility.” ~ Winston Churchill
At our SOAR kick-off this year, one of the areas I covered with our intermediate grades was the difference between peer conflict and bullying. As the school counselor, one of my duties is to help individuals with differences come together to see uncomfortable situations through the other person’s eyes. Practicing person responsibility for words and actions greatly reduces instances of peer conflict and bullying.
We are careful not to label instances of peer conflict as bullying as there are specific criteria that must be met for a behavior to be classified as bullying. In situations where bullying has been identified, one of the biggest ways to support an individual who has been targeted is to help that student realize that they are valued and to find his/her voice. No one deserves to be bullied. Correcting the aggressor’s bullying behavior requires intervention and appropriate consequences. Our goal is to teach tolerance. Accepting responsibility for words and actions is the first step in correcting a problem. I am reminded of one of Dr. Phil’s favorite sayings, “You can’t fix what you don’t acknowledge.”
Schools are required to investigate all reports of bullying. Bullying Complaint Report Forms can be found by following the “Parent Portal” link to the “Anti-Bullying” heading at www.leeschools.net or by contacting your child’s teacher, school administration or the school counselor. Every student should feel safe and valued at school. We will continue to educate our students in taking responsibility for choices, obligations and duties. Thank you for joining with us to ensure student success at Cape Elementary.

Back to School Reminders:

- If your child needs medication during the school day, including over the counter medication, please complete a Health Care Provider/Parent Consent for Medication Administration form. Remember a doctor’s signature must be obtained. All medication must be brought to school in the original container by a parent or guardian. If your child has a special diet or health concern, please notify the clinic.
- Create a daily schedule for: waking up, eating breakfast, arriving to school on time, doing homework, enjoying free time, having dinner with the family, bathing, and packing up for the next day. Post daily chore list on fridge as a reminder.
CKC (Cape Kids Care)-Before & After School Program
Welcome to another exciting year at the CKC program at Cape Elementary. We have limited openings in our program at this time. If you are interested, you can find an application on our school website or in the front office. Please note that we have a 24 hour turnaround time for students to begin using the program.
We have many new things happening in our program this year. We are setting up a gaming room where the students will have the opportunity to play Wii, Playstation and Xbox games during recess time. Over the summer, we purchased new outside equipment and games for our program. We have changed the location of where our students will be housed and where they will be playing outside. We are always looking ahead to keep our students safe at Cape Kids Care. Students will be using both playgrounds and the pavillion for recess.
We are looking for donations of monitors, gaming systems and/or accessories. If you would like to donate, please contact our program Director, Mrs. Hood at MaryMHo@leeschools.net or send them to school....Attention: Mrs. Hood.
