Third Graders SKYPE with Mary Amato
A Note from Mrs. Loppnow:
Hello Parents!
It was another busy week in Third Grade! We ended the week with a special SKYPE session with one of our favorite authors, Mary Amato! It is so much fun to be able to talk to a real, live author! Did you know Mary wrote a book that is dedicated to Red Rock Elementary?Check out My Teacher is a Vampire and other Strange Stories! Many students were interested in reading more books by Ms. Amato. A book order form is coming home today, if you are interested. Please return orders by February 16th.
Mid-term progress reports are coming home today. Please read the supplement letter included in the envelope for more details about what is included in the grade. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
Enjoy your weekend!

A Peek into this week and next!
Writer's Workshop: Animal Research!! This week the students worked hard on their paragraphs for HABITAT. They are finding creative ways to organize their facts into meaningful, exciting sentences. I can't wait for you to see their progress!
**If your child is having a hard time completing work in class, it may come home for finish-up homework. This will be important to keep everyone on the same pace for finishing the project.**
Content: We found out that a few students COULD outrun a dinosaur! Looking at stride lengths and measuring distance, we were able to determine how fast we are compared to three different dinosaurs. Thankfully, we will never have to REALLY outrun a dinosaur, but it was fun to imagine!
Reader's Workshop: This week students continued to practice reading more difficult text and using text evidence to determine the meaning of unknown words. Next week students will practice asking and answering questions of non-fiction text. This strategy will help students make meaning in the text they are researching for their animal books.
MATH SPOTLIGHT STRATEGY
This week's SPOTLIGHT STRATEGY is...Fractions on a Number Line
