Blue Jay Flyer
January 11, 2023
From the Principal's Desk...
Parents and Guardians,
We need your help! Registration for the 2023-2024 school year will start on January 29th with our Open House. We need EVERY family to help share our Social Media posts and spread the word about what you love about being part of the Blue Jay Family!
Tomorrow is a SPIRIT WEAR day for students! Students may wear spirit wear along with their regular uniform bottoms on THURSDAY this week. We usually reserve our spirit wear days for Fridays, but since we will have visitors in our building on Friday, we are moving it to tomorrow.
On Friday, January 13th, Local 12 will be on our campus to shoot a promotional video for their segment: “The Catholic School Showcase: An Interactive Tour.” Local 12 will have a camera crew on our campus from approximately 8:30-12pm. They will be recording video segments in classrooms as well as interviewing some staff, students, and parents. Please make sure that all students are properly dressed in proper uniform attire that is clean and presentable. Every student will have the chance to be on camera at one point throughout the day. I think this is an amazing opportunity for our school, and I can't wait to see the finished product.
If you have any questions about the showcase of our school, please feel free to contact me directly at cweinheimer@stjohnsdrschool.org.
Thanks and have a great night!
Sincerely,
Courtney Weinheimer

Aubrey Rose Scholarship Deadline Jan. 27
The deadline for current 8th grade students to apply for the Aubrey Rose Foundation Scholarship is quickly approaching. An application is available at https://aubreyrose.org/scholarships/. The deadline to apply is Friday, January 27, 2023.
The Aubrey Rose Foundation offers this scholarship opportunity to 8th graders who will be attending a private high school in Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky or Southeastern Indiana.
Since 2001, they have organized a children’s educational scholarship program in honor of Aubrey Rose. Aubrey made such a difference in many people’s lives within her three short years here on this earth. To honor her and her achievements, they base our scholarships on a child’s kindness and willingness to give back to their community. Their scholarships are for those students who have a compassionate heart, unlike other scholarships that are based on academics or athletic ability.
Cold & Flu Season Guidelines
As we enter the winter months we want to make sure everyone is on the same page with when to keep your child(ren) home for an illness. Please see the attachment from Mrs. Greer about guidelines to follow when you have a sick child.

Boston Tea Party
Our fourth grade students filled out British colonist profiles with their names, colonies, jobs, and whether they were Loyalists or Patriots. Meanwhile, King George III (Miss McCoy) taxed them for things without representation for things like wearing white socks, having their hair worn in a ponytail or living in Boston during the Boston Tea Party!
Athletic Boosters
Congratulations to both of our fifth/sixth grade girls' volleyball teams on winning their leagues this season! Team Crawford went 10-0 and Team Haskamp went 10-1. Great job Blue Jays!

Spring Soccer Sign Ups Open Soon
St. John's will be offering SAY Rec Soccer for boys and girls playing Swarmers (2017), Passers (2015 & 2016) and Wings (2013 & 2014). These teams will play an 8 game season in Northwest SAY. There is no post season tournament in the Spring.
St. John's also now offers Premier soccer for those who want to experience club level competition. Our teams play in Select leagues such as Cardinal Premier and Buckeye Premier and are eligible to enter various tournaments. This program is coach driven and will typically require a tryout. Keep in mind there is a bigger time commitment with this option and the cost is significantly higher. Right now we have a U9(2013) girls team and are in the process of putting together a U9(2013) boys team. We hope to form more teams moving forward but need coaches and parents to help lead the charge. If you would like more information on our Premier program please contact Tom Osborn.
***A one-time family fee of $50 will be assessed per account at the beginning of each calendar year. The family fee helps to cover capital improvements and operating expenses of our athletic facilities.
