BLACK HISTORY MONTH SPIRIT DAY - Monday, February 28th
To honor the last day of Black History Month, the Associated Student Body and Black Student Union are encouraging students to participate in a Black History Month spirit day spotlighting the Pan-African flag and its colors: Red, Black & Green. Students may wear school appropriate clothing in one color or all of the colors to participate! Please note that students are NOT allowed to wear pajamas or pajama pants. Students wearing pajamas will be dress coded and parents will be notified.
HISTORY OF THE FLAG: The Pan-African flag was created in 1920 to represent the people of the African diaspora, and to symbolize Black liberation and freedom in the United States. Each color in the flag has a symbolic meaning:
RED: The blood that unites all people of African descent, and the blood lost in the fight for freedom.
BLACK: For the people and strength of community.
GREEN: The fertility and abundant natural wealth of the African continent, the Motherland
So, wear school appropriate clothing (no pajamas) in one color or all of the colors to participate!
