Waipawa School
Term 1, Week 10 -6th April 2022
PRINCIPAL'S Catch up
Though we still have over a week left I am looking forward to this term ending and the next one starting. I'm really proud of the staff who have worked hard for each other and the children who have coped with having a different teacher and being split around the classrooms. I know this is likely to continue next term but we now have a good idea of how this works and how we can improve it. In a lot of ways spreading children out is a lot better than having an unfamiliar reliever in the room!
One of the most important things we need to do next term is meet with you. We really missed not having conferences earlier this term so we have scheduled them for next term during week 2 (Wednesday 11 May) and week 3 (Thursday 19 May). It will be really important for teachers to connect with you and set the term up as well as we can.
COVID news
We still have a number of children testing positive or at home as a household contact. However this week we have seen our absences dip under the 70 mark. This sounds like a lot but it's a huge decrease down from our peak of 127 absent! This week we have 3 staff at home isolating. Just a reminder parents entering the school do not need to wear a mask outside, only when entering classrooms or the office area.

ALL winter sports teams are being registered this week. If you have not yet registered your child/children for Hockey, Miniball, Netball or Football then please send an email to Yvette - sportscoordinator@waipawa.school.nz

REPLAY
The purpose of REPLAY is to recycle used sports gear to reduce our environmental footprint and increase opportunities for children to be more physically active and enable participation in sport. REPLAY works by collecting donations of new & used sports gear and redistributes this gear within the community primarily to local tamariki and rangatahi, enabling more children to be active and participate in play, physical activity, and sport by providing sports gear they would otherwise not have e.g. rugby boots, shin pads, a hockey stick, or a ball. Sports gear is received via collection bins located at various nominated sites across the district, checked, sorted, cleaned then the equipment is redistributed within the community. Distribution is prioritised to support primary schools, early childhood centres, community organisations, and groups (assisting children and families). Please get in contact with Nicola Heremaia directly should you identify a need for equipment for any upcoming active projects or initiatives, team or school activities.
Launching this week Central Hawke’s Bay now has three collection sites where community can donate equipment they no longer need or want:
Centralines Sports Complex (permanent)
Waipawa Library (Term 2)
CHB College (Term 2)
‘POP-UP’ recycling station at the Central Rugby & Sports Club – Jnr Rugby Weigh in on Thursday (future ‘pop-up’ stations TBC in the coming weeks)
Please direct any community enquiries to the Sport Hawke’s Bay – Central HB Facebook page

STARTING SCHOOL : 4 Year Old Mornings
- We find 4 visits before starting school is usually sufficient. However, if your child requires more we would be in close communication with you.
- Whanau are welcome to stay for the first visit and leave when the child / parent feels comfortable. Subsequent visits we ask that parents be brave and leave so that the child experiences what school is like.
- Please pack a snack for brainfood (fruit, sandwich, muesli bar) and something for morning tea.
- Children can wear mufti clothing or school uniform if they have it available.
Please don't hesitate to pop in and see us if you have any questions or concerns.
