COVID Communication
As you know, Henrico County Public Schools and Longdale Elementary are doing everything reasonably possible to keep you informed about health concerns that are connected to our school. Over the past week, Oct. 9th - Oct. 15th Longdale Elementary has recorded 2 positive COVID-19 cases and 5 associated exposures (close contacts).
Thank you for doing all that you can to keep our school community healthy and safe. If your child is sick continue to keep them home and communicate with the school. If your child has an ongoing health condition such as asthma, allergies, etc., it may be helpful to have your child's doctor send in a note to the school to assist with ruling out COVID symptoms.

Culture Corner
Bilingual Child Month
October is Celebrating the Bilingual Child Month. A person who is bilingual knows two or more languages and understand multiple cultures. This month recognizes bilingual children. These children act as a bridge between multiple cultures.
Children who speak two or more languages offer fabulous insights for classrooms. Celebrate their culture and language by encouraging them to share a little through activities. Don’t single them out, but help them to be enthusiastic about their heritage through interactive games that include the entire class. Even parents can be part of the celebration. Invite them to their children’s classroom to contribute exciting stories or delicious family recipes.
Strengthen reading skills by bringing home bilingual books. Visit libraries and online resources that provide bilingual options. Across languages, many words look and sound alike and often have similar meanings. Provide the children with opportunities to discover these words and explore their meanings and common connections across cultures. What other languages share related sounds or roots?
Global Diversity Awareness Month
October brings Global Diversity Awareness Month to remind us of the positive impact a diverse workforce of men and women can have on society.
More and more, the world becomes a place where cultures and customs come together, and we are uncertain about what is appropriate. Whether a question or the behavior is taboo, there’s an opportunity to learn. When we ask questions and are open to learning, the path to two cultures being enlightened is likely.
