The Skeletal System and the Muscular System
There are 206 bones in the human body. When you are a baby you have 350 bones in your body. Most of your bones in your body are in your hands and feet. Calcium keeps your bones healthy and strong. Milk has calcium to keep your bones healthy. Exercise keeps your bones strong. Your bones protect your organs like your heart and lungs. Your muscles are connected to your bones so that's how you talk. The bones of the body are called the skeleton or skeletal system. The muscles of the body muscles move the bones.
There are more then 600 muscles to move the parts of the skeleton.Muscles work in only two ways. They get shorter or they get longer. When the muscles relax and get longer, they move the body. The bones have no way of moving themselves. In fact, half of your body is muscle!A muscle is thick in the middle and thin on the ends. The thin end of the muscle is hooked to a bone.
