Welcome to the First Grade

Miss Yeakey's Classroom--Newsletter 1

About Me

My name is Miss Yeakey, and I am SO excited to be your teacher this year! I graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in the spring of 2019 with my major in Elementary Education. I am originally from Elkhart, IN and actually attended St. Thomas for five years! This happens to be my first year having a classroom of my own, but I am confident that I am ready to take on this challenge after many years of practice. I have student taught in numerous different teaching environments, and I have had the privilege of spending time with my mom who is one of the 3rd grade teachers here! Please don't hesitate to contact me with all of your questions and concerns. I am so excited to start this journey with all of you!

Being Prepared: I hope all students come ready to learn each day in the morning. Therefore, I expect all children to do their homework each night and get plenty of sleep. It's important that each student is well rested so they come ready to participate in fun activities and demonstrating the first grade standards! Below is the QR code for the Indiana Academic Standards for all grades.

Attitude: Each student should come with an open-mind and positive attitude. Bullying will not be tolerated at any point. If I catch a student being harmful to another, negative consequences will be enforced.

Homework: There will most likely be one sheet of homework per night. The homework will be sent home each night with the child in their personal homework folder. If they do not complete the assignment, they will be expected to stay inside during recess to finish the worksheet for half credit.

Please check the monthly calendar for crucial dates! I will update it often.
Most importantly, please do not hesitate to email me with any questions you may have. I'm so excited to start the year with all of you!
