Principal's Notes:
Hi GES families-
We are excited about our busy month ahead. Please join us for our Book Fair Evening on March 20 and our International Festival on March 21. Thank you for your continued support for our staff and students. Our students in third grade did an excellent job on IREAD and we are starting to prepare for ILEARN for 3rd and 4th-grade students for mid-April. Please look for your teacher newsletters for more details.
Have a great start to your SPRING,

disAbility Awareness Week
GES students will participate in a variety of activities during disAbility Awareness Week March 20-24. The goal is to increase awareness of obstacles faced by some individuals with disabilities and how many of those individuals use their own skills and technology to navigate throughout their daily activities.
Several of our Gators use assistive technology to communicate and students will have an opportunity to try out this cool technology during the week. We are in need of 1-2 volunteers per class this week as students participate in an interactive demonstration. If you're interested in helping with your child's class please click here.
Among our presenters is Jason Funk, a 17-year-old HSE student with Autism. Jason publishes original comics and personal essays and will share his story with the students. If you are interested in ordering some of Jason's merch, please use the attached order form.
Come to the GES Book Fair Next Week! Volunteers Needed
It’s Book Fair time! Our book fair will take place next week, from March 20-23.
Your child will attend during their library time, which may be different than their usual time. See the schedule (and volunteer to help if you can!) here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b084baba72ba3f49-book#/
We will have a family shopping night on Monday, March 20 from 5:30-7:30pm. The book fair will take place in the music room. We can accept cash, credit card, eWallet (more information below), and checks payable to Geist Elementary PTO.
Something new this year: we have to charge 7% sales tax.
The newest Dog Man book comes out 3/28. Students can preorder the book and they will be sent to the school and distributed. We will be sending home an order form, as well as a preview booklet, this week.
The book fair website is here: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/geistelementaryschool1. We will also have an online component that runs from March 20-April 2 if you would like to shop online.
You can also set up an eWallet, which is a cashless shopping option. Information about eWallets can be found here: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/content/fairs/ewallet.html
Thanks to the PTO for their support with the Book Fair! Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions.
Thank you,
Jennifer Harmon

Dear Families,
HSE Schools welcome the Smiles Program/Mobile Dentists to provide a free exam and cleaning to your student while they are in school. We understand many families do not have dental insurance and cannot afford the costs out of pocket, so we hope this will provide the dental care your student needs.
Mobile Dentists accepts dental insurance as well, so please provide that information if you’d like to register your student(s).
Geist Elementary is hosting the Mobile Dentists on Tuesday, April 11.
To register your student(s), please complete a form by using one of the following methods:
- Go to: www.myschooldentist.com, find your school in the listing and complete the form
- Scan the QR code below to take you to the website
- Print the attached permission form and send in with your student or scan and email to your building nurse or Amy Hanna at: ahanna@hse.k12.in.us
- Copies are also available at the school front desk. You are welcome to stop by or your student can pick up a copy
Please complete all information on the form. If information is missing, you may be asked to complete another form. You may submit the form by Thursday, March 30 to ensure Mobile Dentists have time to process the forms prior to the appointment date.
If you have any further questions, feel free to go to the website: myschooldentist.com or contact Amy Hanna.
Spring Break and Extended Absences
Please remember that if your student will miss 2 or more days of school before or after Spring Break you will need to fill out and submit a prearranged absence form to the office. The form is attached below.
If your child will miss only one day, please email Mrs. Roberson at eroberson@hse.k12.in.us with the date your child will be absent.

KIDS HEART CHALLENGE NEWS:
Each year when we start Kid's Heart Challenge, I ask the kids a question. What is your Why? This year I heard a lot of great reasons Why they do this project each year. I now have 23 reasons Why I do this project each year. I have 15 students or former students, 4 family members, 1 close friend and this year I added another reason. Thanks to all who share their stories of Why they do this project.
Thanks to Olivia B. in Mrs. Dessrich's class for giving me a much needed haircut!! Olivia raised the most money for Kid's Heart Challenge this year. Our updated total for Kids Heart Challenge is $17,467.60 as of 3-16-23. Thanks again for all who helped raise donations this year. The prizes should be here when we return from Spring Break and I will send invites for incentive prizes. If your child raised over $100 they will receive an invitation for an after school activity.
