"There is a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it is convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results." -Kenneth Blanchard

Computer Shut Down

Yup, it’s true….as of the writing of this entry we have two, 4-day weeks coming up! Presidents Day and another Snow Make Up day that was not used are on the horizon for planned days offs. When those days get closer, the ‘Extended Break Shutdown’ procedures for our devices will be a part of my entry. And, as a school, we do awesome at our Extended Break Shutdowns, but now it’s time for WMS to show how awesome we are!! Its time…..for darkness. Lets focus on the day to day items for energy conservation that lead to energy savings, and what we can do as individuals on a daily basis. For example:

  1. Power down your equipment in your classroom. Not talking unplugging, but power down your computer, monitor (all the way, not just power saving/energy star mode), Smart Boards,

  2. Power down SPEAKERS attached to your computers. WMS is often ‘dinged’ on this aspect so let’s talk if you would like a powerstrip for your smaller items so they may all be turned off with one switch,

  3. Shut down computer labs at the end of the day. Power down towers and monitors (all they way, not just power saving/energy star mode). This is an area of growth for WMS.

School Safety #9

Please discuss what you would do during team meeting and work together on what would be a good plan for you and your students. This is not an opportunity to talk about "what-if's" or complaints, it is a serious reflection of "what you would do" if presented with the scenario:

The bell has just rung for period 3 to end (10:50 am). Students exit your classroom bounding with excitement for the remainder of the day. You walk out into the hallway for passing period supervision with a smile on your face because the class period had just gone so well. At 10:52 am, the fire alarm goes off. What do you do?

Remember to log discussion of School Safety responses in your team meeting minutes.

Have a great weekend,

Shawn J
