Quarter 1 Grades
Pennsylvania Youth Survey
What is PAYS?
It is a survey of youth in the 6th , 8th , 10th , and 12th grades. PAYS asks questions about students’ perspectives of their school environment, as well as attitudes, knowledge and behaviors concerning alcohol, tobacco, other drugs (ATOD), violence, depression, and other problem behaviors. The survey also collects information about risk factors which are the conditions that increase the likelihood that a child will develop problem behaviors later in life, and it also collects information about protective factors – people or conditions in a community that can buffer a youth from risk.
The survey is completely anonymous and confidential. You can read more about the survey here: PAYS SURVEY

News from the Nurse's Office
Get the facts about electronic cigarettes, their health effects and the risks of using e-cigarettes.
E-cigarettes, also known as vapes, vape pens, and JUUL have become popular with teens across the United States. At Biglerville High School, we have seen an increase involving student vaping. We take this issue very seriously, due to the harmful health effects vaping can have on our children.
What is vaping?
According the Center on Addiction, vaping is the act of inhaling a vapor produced by an electronic vaporizer or e-cigaretter. The inhaled vapor can contain nicotine, THC (a chemical found in marijuana), and other substances. The liquids that are vaporized come in many different flavors and might even smell fruity. Many of the flavors of vape juices are sweet and have names such as cinnamon roll, marshmallow, bubblegum, cotton candy and lemonade.
Much like other tobacco products, stores may not sell these products to anyone under the age of 18, however, students have reported that these items are easily purchased online.
If you have concerns about your child, please do not hesitate to reach out to one of the school counselors for assistance.
